PostPosted: Sat Nov 05, 2005 12:32 pm    Post subject: No Dial Tone after 1.00.55 - WRTP54G Reply with quote Back to top

Things have been working fine since mid-July 05 when I purchased the WRTP54G and signed on to Vonage. Even recently when lots of folks were complaining about CID - I had no problems.

Then sometime Thursday - I got updated to 1.00.55 and things went you know where in the proverbial handbasket.

Incoming calls come in but we almost never have a dial tone when trying to initiate a call. After repowering the WRTP54G, we will have a dial tone. But after making one call and hanging up the dial tone is gone again.

Also, when someone calls in, the first several seconds of their talking is cut off - we don't hear it. And CID is now hit or miss. All this started with the 1.00.55 upgrade.

Called tech support - after much checking back with someone else he told me to disable NAT/Firewall. I objected - saying I didn't want to run that way and had not had to run that way before 1.00.55. But getting no other help, I decided to try to disable NAT.

Well, guess what - with NAT disabled the entire router function is out to lunch!! I can still see the WRTP54G and my cable modem, but can not connect anywhere on the Web. So that was a very short experiment.

Any one else experiencing this problem and anybody have any suggestions? I am going to wear out the DC power connector on the WRTP54G at this rate!!

Disabling NAT was a very bad suggestion!

Have you reset EVERYTHING? (start with shutting down PCs, then router, then modem. Power up in reverse order beginning with the modem, wait, next device)

I was away on business and my wife complained that our phones were acting "wacky" this week. Similar symptoms; can't hear calling party, calls won't go through, etc.

So, I logged in and noted the firmware rev was an unfamiliar one: 1.0.55.

Does 1.0.55 suck? Did Vonage apply this themselves? I'm wondering if I should flash back to down the previous version I put on (I think it was 1.0.47.)

FYI: My TA is a Linksys RTP300

Vonager - thanks for the suggestion. I have been through the shutdown sequence several times, but just to be sure I tried it again just now and even after the orderly sequence of power down and back up - I still have no dial tone!!

Then I sequence power off/on only on the WRTP54G and I have a dial tone again once. After the first check for dial tone - it is gone again.

Very frustrating!!

Jorn,

1.00.55 was automatically downloaded to me sometime Thursday. It definitely has problems for me as described above.

Good luck on trying to restore an earlier version. I did that yesterday, but as soon as I hook the WRTP54G back to the modem, it again updated automatically to 1.00.55.

1.00.50 was somewhat stable. Then .52 introduced some odd, random issues (mostly CID), .55 is most recent (late this week).
Have you tried hard resetting the WRTP54G (note settings as you'd have to reapply them.)?

Someone last week (before .55) has reported that .52 screwed up their connection and the fix was to call Vonage CS who re-applied the FW and the problem went away. It might be time to call CS and see what they have to say.

I also have the latest firmware of course mine came in automatically. I have done everything I can with Vonage over the phone with level 1 Right now I am on the phone with level 2 over a cell phone. I can recieve calls but can get dial tone only once after power cycling my router. Then after that no dial tone. I am hoping they can roll back the firmware or fix this issue asap.

Level 2 changed the phone port to number 2 and then the phone started to work like it normally did as far as Dial tone is concerned. I am wondering if they somehow didn't configure the firmware properly to port 1. But port 2 works everytime we pick up the phone now. Well, unfortunately it worked for 3 times on getting a dial tone and is now back to not receiving any dial tone again.....

Guys,
I WAS talking to Vonage tech support - level 2 ( after wasting 1 hour with level-1 tech support ). HE COULD not solve the problem.... i even told him to check issues with firmware version 1.00.55. the S_T_U_P_I_D guy was asking me to change or buy a new phone. .... He hung up on me....

I talked to supervisor .... seems to be a patient guy....he is REALLY WORKING ON THE FIRMWARE IN DEBUG MODE ..... He is updating my device.....I get dial tone now.... i am able to make calls. But after rebooting it does not work....

The Guy said they are working on SOFTWARE CHANGE .... Please check back in few Hours....
