Oh since my service has been so spotty I didn't report this earlier but let me just say for the record that Caller ID does NOT work and call waiting causes me to lose the call I am on.

The current firmware is 1.00.55. Some people have reported CID issues with this version, but I don't really notice since I don't care about CID.
Otherwise, mine is working perfectly. Great voice quality and wireless connectivity solid as a rock.

turbo53,
How did your firmware get upgraded? Were you having issues before the firmware upgrade?

Jocjo: Here is the history on my router. But please forgive me if I get some of the firmware versions wrong. I bought it in June and can't remember the timeline exactly.
When I bought the device, it came with 1.00.18 firmware. After signing up with
Vonage
, it was automatically upgraded to the (then) current version of 1.00.24 (I think).
The wireless router capability has been solid as a rock since the very beginning, but I had an issue with "reverse echo". When I talked to someone, they would hear their own words echoed back to them. Everything sounded fine at my end, it was the person on the other end who heard the echo.
This was finally fixed with firmware version 1.00.48. But this version was not officially released. It was only sent to people who called
Vonage
and complained loud and long about the reverse echo problem. This problem was officially fixed with version 1.00.50.
There have been 2 upgrades since then, with the latest being 1.00.55. Many people on this forum have complained about caller id issues with this version, but I don't notice since I really don't care about CID and rarely bother to look at the display on the phone to see who is calling. But when I DO happen to look, CID seems fine.
I strongly suspect that some of the problems that people are experiencing are due to other issues, not the WRTP54G itself. For example, I used to have a DLink DCM-200 cable modem which worked fine with my old router, a Linksys BEFW11S4, but didn't seem to work properly with the WRTP54G.
I brought home some routers from work to do some testing, and discovered that NOTHING worked with the DCM-200 modem EXCEPT the BEFW11S4!! Pretty amazing, huh? I just happened to stumble on the right router that worked with it. When I reported this on the forum, the consensus seemed to be that the DCM-200 was a piece of crap. I replaced it with a Linksys modem and everything has been cool since then.
Anyway, bottom line is this:
1) I had a cable modem issue at first, not a router issue
2) The reverse echo was a router issue, fixed with a firmware upgrade.
3) I've received all the upgrades automatically from
Vonage
. Never needed to apply them myself.
Maybe I'm just lucky.

Well you def seem luckier than me.
Vonage
has yet to perform any upgrades on my router and the call waiting/caller ID issues are awful. I'll be switching back to my old setup when I get back home later this week.

I don't now how to check the firmware version on my router but am interested. My home wiring setup went to hell in a handbasket recently and i haven't been able to get it back. The only way my phone works is if i plug it in directly to the PAP2 adapter. How do i check the firmware version?? Any other ideas on the home wiring? It worked greeat for about 6 months, and then died on me with no changes to my network, etc.

Still no Caller ID... still no router firmware upgrade... Call waiting causes calls to be dropped...
Looks like I'll be returning this junk since
Vonage
has no idea what to do with it...
