It is my belief that thru firmware upgrade Vonage somehow lowered that number to likely below 3. Hopefully they will correct this. Maybe they had no choice for now.
The one common thread that everyone states is that CID worked before the .52 upgrade. Now callerID ONLY seems to work properly where the REN is less.
Plus side is that ring cadence and *70 are corrected and likely plenty of other minor problems that we did not even know about. |
Yup, that's the trick. The units have a certain amount of memory and a certain amount of power to play with. When you try to make them do something different, there are frequently tradeoffs.
I expect that's why they messed up the stability of the WRTP54G, and hosed up Caller ID for others, etc etc. They are trying different things to make EVERYTHING work, and those of us on the "fringes" (like me pounding the heck out of my router on BitTorrent, and others with semi-"marginal" caller ID setups) get hosed.
As Scotty would say, the adapter reaches a point where "she canna give any more, captain", and Vonage has to do their best to compromise.
Maybe lowering the REN was meant to send a clearer caller ID signal, or a cleaner dial tone. Maybe it never got lowered, but got INCREASED, and the new REN is overwhelming some Caller ID systems with too much power or some new interference caused by the extra power or over-driving the ringer in the adapter.
That's why I'm considering one of the older WRT54GS (pre-V5) routers to put in front of my Vonage WRTP54G unit. 24MB of processing power and Linux. It's easy to write external firmware when you aren't trying to cram all this stuff in 8MB or less. |

I called Vonage customer service tonight and they updated a patch into the newest firware .55 and totally fixed my cid problem!!! i suggest everyone who is having problems call and get the patch.. i personally had absolutely no problems until the firmware upgrade and then my cid stopped working entirely (would work for 1st call after a reboot), however my cwcid worked??
hopefully this is the ticket!!!!! |

That's very good news. Ring cadence still OK? |

Okay folks. Finally got time, baby sleeping....
Hooked phone directly to Vonage adapter and same issues. So I called Vonage and the tech tells me that they are aware of the issue and that it is firmware related and I can expect it to be fixed within 24-48 hours. Im calling back to get another tech just to make sure, so I will let you know how that pans out.
Are techs able to force updates like the patch to .55?
Edit: Jamal concurs.....
The techs dont seem to want to force an update, any way I can do it on my own? |
