During the first few months of Vonage service, call quality was excellent. Starting a couple of months ago, we began to have multiple call quality problems including one way calls (hello? hello?), toilet bowl audio and dropped calls. The first two have been dealt with by replacing defective cable modems (two in a row) that were isolated by using a cable-company provided speed test utility.

The third problem (dropped calls) remains and I am at a loss to explain why.

The setup is:
PC-----| SMC2404------| RT31P--> motorola 5110-->coax.
PC-----| Phoneline-|

The RT31P is connected to house wiring, with two phones on the house wiring: one fixed and one cordless. Both phones experience call drops - together and independently.

Any suggestions welcome.

Have you tried without using your home wiring? Tried with other phones/phone cords? Made sure the kids aren't downloading movies at the same time? No freeloaders on your wireless network? Run any internet speed/packet loss tests?

Wireless network? What frequency is the cordless phone?

The Vonage speed test indicates that my internet service is capable of handling 3-5 high quality call sessions.

There is no difference when plugging directly in to the RT31P2.

The wireless phone is 5ghz, the wireless LAN is 802.11g (2.4 ghz).

This worked for me, less than 24 hours ago:

Ask your ISP for the URL of your modem.
It'll test your patience getting this out of them.

Or, maybe there is a discussion group for your modem that can help you.

Look at its error log. Note the timestamps. See if the dropped callss have a matching timestamp in the modem's error log.

New cable modem (SB5101) cured it all.

a lot of times it can be find in the documentation or a simple google search also. I think the typical cable modem url is 192.168.100.1
it definitely is for the moto sb's.
