I'm suddenly having trouble with calls being dropped after about 30 seconds. This just started happening today. No changes in the network setup for several months.

Per the sticky, here's my info:

1. Your location - La Habra Heights, CDA

2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) - Verizon DSL

3. Upload and download speeds - According to dslreports.com:
Your download speed : 268 kbps or 33.5 KB/sec.
Your upload speed : 108 kbps or 13.5 KB/sec.

4. Modem make and model - I assume this is referring to DSL modem, which is a Fujitsu of some flavor.

5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2 - RTP300

6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC

DSL -> SMC Barricade -> RTP300 -> Panasonic KX-TS3282 phone
Desktop wired to the SMC; Laptop wireless to the SMC

7. Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc

I can get a dial tone and make a call. Call works for just about 30 secons and then abruptly drops. If I try to pick up again I get a raspy buzzing sound in place of a dial tone. Wait a while and I can get a dial tone again.

108Kbps is barely acceptable for Vonage service, and is likely the primary cause of your problems. Have your speeds always been this low? 268k/108k is way lower than any normal DSL speeds that I'm aware of. Its likely your DSL throughput has recently been degraded for some reason. I'd check with Verizon, after first checking to see what speeds you're SUPPOSED to be getting with your service. In the meantime, you might try going into "Bandwidth Saver in your Vonage control panel and setting it at the lowest 30Kbps rate until your DSL speeds are better. This might fix the dropped calls and choppy audio, at the expense of slightly lower audio quality.

Turns out there was some trouble with the Verizon DSL line. After many calls to them they finally seem to have fixed it. I don't know what they did...I'm not sure that they know what they did. Given the poor experience with Verizon support I'll be switching to DSL Extreme.
