When you have a regular POTS line and a computer with a modem you are able to send and receive faxes with your computer. Is this true with vonage as well or do you have to purchase their fax line? |

If you have problems sometimes try dial *99 before the number. It disables the bandwidth saver so you are using the full 90kbps bandwidth. |

also try to throttle down your transmission speeds. vonage seems to choke using anything over 14.4 kbps.

I think it depends on the quality of the modem in the machine and on the Internet connection. I can get full 50+Kbps v.90 modem connections on my Vonage line if I use a good modem, and modems are fussier than fax machines. |

The fax line is just a second line dedicated to fax. It's for people that have an actual fax machine and wants it on a seperate line. The difference is that the quality and speed of the fax line is lower, which is fine for fax (data takes up a lot less space than sound), but would result in severely reduced sound quality on a phone.
Edit: You can use any phone line to send faxes, even your cellphone if it's supported and you have the necessary equipment. Fax lines are however not capable of providing decent sound quality. |
