Hopefully nobody minds if I revisit this issue. I got my number ported today and when I got home I was looking forward to playing with it. I used my cell phone to call my house only to discover that CID wasn't working. The way I have the phones set up now is one two line phone (taking a whopping 1.3 REN...but only has one line connected to it), a panasonic expandable system taking a wimpy 0.1 REN (soon to be replaced by the uniden TRU8865 system)...and a Sony IT-B3 corded phone which I can't find any REN info on.

The sony corded phone is mounted on my structured wiring board and is close to a lot of electornic devices...so I though it could be causing the intereference....so I unplugged it. That fixed the CID problem like a charm! I only used the sony to test that the line is working. Since the board will be mounted in a utility room I wanted a quick way to test that the Vonage adapter was working ok.

I have a couple more phones I'd like to hook up to the system when we move into our new home....eventually I'll have the two line phone in my office, a uniden expanable system around the house, our current panasonic expandable in the guest rooms, and possible another cordless phone in the basement. I defintly would like to have CID working on these phones. I will be wiring the house with CAT 5E, so hopefully the interference will be at a minimum.

I currently have a RTP300 with 10.0.55.

Also, can you get amplifiers for REN and CID info? You'd think some businesses would have tons of phone that it would be needed. Can it also be a phone cable issue? I guess I could try different phone cables to connect to the sony and see if that helps.

Anyone else want to share their CID experience?

Caller ID has improved from release to release, getting a little better each time.

1.00.58 fixes a lot of the remaining caller ID problems that still existed in 1.00.55 - my caller ID did not work properly in .55 for example but it worked in .58.

Power down the router and restart it a couple of times, and see if it loads the latest firmware. Otherwise, you may want to call Customer Service and see if they can push it for you.

The one known bug in 1.00.58 is that you want to wait until after the second ring, or at least until after caller ID information appears, before answering the phone. If you answer before this, you'll get a horrible, scratchy connection. Other than that, 1.00.58 is a great version.

I started out with 10.0.58 but ran into issues with it. I know the second ring problem...but I was getting static on outgoing calls about 50% of the time. I wouldn't be adverse to trying it again...is there a link to the firmware somewere? I have the 10.0.55 firmware so I could always go back to that if it gave me to much problems.

Depends on your priorities.

Supposedly, 1.00.59 is coming out soon, with a rumored fix to the static problem (at least the "answer before second ring makes static" issue). So if caller ID is less critical than a clear line (which it darned well would be for me!), you can wait until .59 or whatever the next release is, and try that one out.

I can wait....my setup right now is ok since I don't need the sony phone hooked up for testing since I know the line works.

Thanks again guys.

I'm running 1.00.59 here, have been for a few weeks... it seems to fix the static on outgoing calls, but NOT on incoming 1st ring calls. They have REDUCED the level of the static when you answer on the 1st ring, but haven't eliminated it yet. 1.00.60 appears to be in the works.

Seems so odd that everytime a new firmware release comes out a new problem is created. I think someone is creating a little job security for themselves. Kidding of course, but it does seem odd that satic was introduced in a firmware release unless a major portion of code was updated. Even though this is not any kind of major issue for me as I usually wait until the callerID shows up before answering it's still concerning.

The caller ID issues were fixed in the .58 firmware. If you are still getting them you either have more then 5 phones on your home wiring, or your demarction point is not disconnected.

The .58 created inbound static, the easy fix is just to answer on the second ring and it won't come in.

The .59 firmware is still in beta.

Don't expect anything from .59, I've never had it fix a device. And if you do call in don't let them roll you back to .55 since it will break CID.

Static on ourgoing calls in .58? Hmm - never run into that one, at least not after they supposedly did some switch maintenance.

Did they give you any hints on when .59 was supposed to come out? I'm still on .58, and the rumor mill had it that .59 was supposed to be this past weekend (of course, we all know how good rumor mills are). Wink

Any problems INTRODUCED by .59, or do things look pretty good from your end?
