From my experimentation, in order to have VM set the Message Waiting Indicator (light and stutter dial-tone), you must press # # after recording the message. If you just hang up, the message is recorded and shows up in your VM, but no indicator is sent.

Is this consistent with other users systems and experiences? It would seem logical to me that if the VM is going to be saved when you hang-up, that it would also send the MWI as well.

For reference, my setup is:

TWC -> WRT54G -> PAP2

no that's not consistent with any experience I've ever had or read about. what gave you the idea in the first place to even do that? it should be an automatic thing.

When I got Vonage I thought the same thing. I recorded a quick message then called my number. The female voice says "when finished press #" then there is another message that says basically to hit # again so my first message said when you are finished hit # twice. After testing again I discovered that was unnecessary so now my message says to hang up when finished recording.

A long story to say that # # is not needed. Maybe something changed? I get VMWI on all messages.

The VoiceMail prompts instruct you to press # when you are finished recording your message...that's what gave me the idea to do that. Confused

interesting, well I guess it's not necessary seeing as how I never even realized it was stated in the instructions and my mwi has always worked.

Hello Bob from Long Island (I used to be from Long Island as well!),

What I've been seeing after a number of test calls, is that I get every MWI if I do the # # sequence, and it seems to be hit or miss if I just hang up. I thought I noticed this in the past, but it has been inconsistent so I wasn't certain. After testing for a while, it seems that by just hanging up I have about a 50% chance of getting the MWI - so it does work, but I'm apparently having some problem with it getting through everytime.

I'll reset my gear one more time and continue to test to see what happens.

No, usually at least for me it is pretty damned solid most of the time. My CID takes a bit longer to show up lately, but it does register. One thing to think about also if it is taking longer, how fast do you have it set on your dashboard to ring before the call goes to VM?

No problems here. Both the indicator flashes on all my phones and I get the stutter tone. Problem is I get it too much with this crazy girl calling one of my sons. Why didn't the girls do all the calling when I was that age? Lol
