Is there any simple test that one can do or a site that one can go to that would allow checking if a network would allow for the use of Vonage? I realize one can sign up for service and plug in the phone adapter and see if it works but I am hoping there is some simple test to confirm whether a network would support the use of Vonage (for example telnet xx.xx.xx.xx nn). This would be relevant for apartments where the Internet connectivity is provided by the apartment and one does not have control over what ports are open and what are not. Also some satellite Internet providers may also block certain ports. I see the speed test which allows one to figure out if one has the necessary bandwidth but is there something like the speed test that also tells if the necessary ports are open? |

Testyourvoip.com will show packetloss etc but not what ports are open, etc. It all depends on the apartment place, ISP, etc...In theory almost all networks would support Vonage, but if I were you I would check with the apartment mgr etc as to how everything is set up. |

True, but testyourvoip may well give you a go/no go test, even if it doesn't identify specific ports that are closed. I'd run the test, and then talk to the apartment folks. |

True. Also you will want to test the speed etc just to see if it can even be done. |

tftp tftp.vonage.net get test at a command prompt. this will tell you if port 69 is open for firmware updates. if 69 is closed, there's a better chance the other ones are too. |
