What do I tell the Comcast tech support people - how do I convince them to give me a new modem?
I've had it for a year, but it might have been used before and been recycled through Comcast. Speeds have been pretty good until the last 3-4 weeks. Sometimes 8 MB download prior to that. Now typically 3-4 MBps download speed.
BTW, the help you're offering, reebok, is incredible. More than I've gotten in nine months of runaround from Vonage and Comcast. Thanks! |

you can try sending them the pingplotter data. if those asterisks are lost pings, which they seem to be, it's pretty bad. also if you aren't getting the right speeds (esp when you were before) something has apparently changed or gone wrong. or just buy a motorola sb5100 from a store and give it a shot. that's a great modem, and if it doesn't work, just take it back. it is some more money out of your own pocket when it shouldn't have to be, but perhaps the savings with Vonage will make up for it. |

Wow! Getting the new cable modem cleared up all the problems. My MOS is now over 4, and my download speeds have increased 10X. No more lost packets either.
Thanks for all your help!

I am having huge packetloss issues with an unrelated gaming application.... doing a search on the IP addy showed this page as well as others... so I don't think it's her cable modem or the Vonage bundle which is causing garbled communication. It's definitely the address 68.87.230.254 which is causing me the packetloss as well. Damn comcast! I'm definitely going to look into getting a cable modem to see if that helps though, thanks for that good bit of advice! |
