Glad to hear you have a solid RR connection. I do at home, but at work it is another matter- maybe RR has too many users on our node.

How do you like that snow? 12 to 17 inches here. Fantastic.

Only 24 hours into the blizzard of '04 and I've already got cabin fever. All that work I've been procrastinating on is beginning to haunt me, too.

Your complaints about "business class" service ring true. The office I work in has what amounts to a high-dollar DSL connection, and it's terrible from both a speed and performance standpoint. I think the folks in my neighborhood must not be computer junkies, because my RR has always been quick- even at peak times.

Cabin fever- got it. Our kids were great to watch at first in the snow, but now they are tracking in snow, screaming, fighting, etc. I am ready for the snow to melt and school to be back. As to work procrastination, I have not done anything yesterday and today, despite having files and the laptop at home to work. Just can't get motivated. So much for telecommuting.

The reasoning behind the 1+ is due to having the portabilty of the Vonage device and dealing with the new NPA NXX splits all over the US. As everyone has known for a while that most people(at least that I know) have to dial at least 10 digits to call locally.

I know this is a pain but for now I understand that it will be this way and will put up with it.

It's only one more digit. lol and for the price...... cant beat it.

No one is discounting the fact that the 1 might be necessary. We're just asking Vonage to add it for us so that dialing our phone is more like dialing a regular phone. It's not that anyone using Vonage hasn't already been accustomed to dialing the 1 and it's not that big of a deal to dial one more button.

I was asking simply for those with classic phone service who visit our house. They cannot make a call without explicit instructions and a detailed explanation about how it really isn't long distance.

A few in this thread get the point but, unfortunately, quite a number of you seem to be missing the point.

That's the key. DOes it work for you? If so, end of story. Whether or not the guest to your home get or not should be of little relevance.

That logic doesn't make sense but it's rampant today within the me generation.

Like I said, most folks aren't GETTING IT. It's probably hopeless but...

At one time, the Internet was a struggle for most users. Once they made it point-and-click, everyone could use it.

Everything else said is irrelevant to my point. It doesn't matter if 1 is required. It doesn't matter if 1 is the U.S. country code. It doesn't matter if everyone may dial 11 or 111 digits in the future. The majority of phones work a certain way when making a local call. I think Vonage should work the same way so that guests can use my phone without explanation and fear.

Now if you want to stand up and shout, "screw the rest of the world", you are certainly entitled. Just don't use that logic to discount my opinion.

I may be confused, but if the dialing of "1" is causing so much discussion, the point is being made.

Some of us have moved from 7 to 10 digits. I do not recall that much problem. I guess its just just moving with the times.

If the extra digit is so much a problem, I suggest these people cancel their service and keep what they feel comfortable with.

For those of us willing to understand, and move to a higher level, we will stay with Vonage. I for one think this 11-digit discussion is past its time.

Thanks for reading my views.

I wonder what kind of people you invite over? Everyone who's been to my house who's tried to place a call are told "you have to dial 1+area, for all calls" end of story, done. What's the big deal?

I feel the deal is that some people either do not understand the reason for the "1" or resist changing their normal habits.

Its just my thoughts.
