annoying isn't it? I have no idea why it's like that, besides that it must be a mistake.

Instant actually means after 1 second, based on the website code I looked at.

I believe this is based on POTS forwarding, which will ring once to "remind" you that you've forwarded your calls.

It's a shame that Vonage decided to follow that, though. There should at least be an option for 0 rings (even if you have to check a box that says "I understand that if I forget my line is forwarded, it's due to my own stupidity").

When I really need sleep, I unplug my phone line at the adapter so there's no ringing to wake me up. However, there are disadvantages, like having to plug it back in to make outgoing calls (in an emergency, for instance). I worry about cutting off "important" calls when I unplug, but there's no way to solve that problem until they come up with a way to let priority calls through.

You could simply turn the ringer off if you wish for it not to ring.

Floodgater's got it right -- this is exactly how POTS behaves and it's there to remind you that you are forwarding calls. FWIW, the Uniden TRU8xxx series phones have a "Do Not Disturb" function on them which mutes the ringers on the base and handsets. I've only hit it by accident, but it does work.

not all the tru8xxx's have that, probably just the ones with bases. but they all have ringer volume control. at any rate, instant should mean instant. if they want a 1 second option, add it to the list. of course that's kind of like unlimited anything doesn't truly mean unlimited anymore.

I don't really want to "turn off" 4 phones, everytime....
I want to sleep.

I don't understand why they even use the word instant.
I mean, even my cell phone "knows how" to forward driectly.

Is there some way to just make it not ring?
should i unplug the router???

that would probably be the quickest option (although I would probably unplug the ethernet cable as opposed to the power)
