I have an 0207 Vonage number. I received a phone call today from a friend who when I answered, asked "Why when I just called you, is your number sounding like I’m calling an international number?". I called my Vonage number from my mobile phone and instead of hearing ring-ring-pause, I have ring-pause-ring-pause like an international number has been dialled. The Vonage phone rings correctly where it is installed it only appears to be the caller that hears the US style tone.
I called Vonage tech support who after 15 minutes told me that they do not generate the ring tone and to contact the telephone company of which I was using to call the Vonage line even after I explained over and over again that it sounded the same if the call was from BT > Vongage, Telewest > Vonage or Orange > Vonage. He insisted it was not a problem at the Vonage end.
I can call any other 0207 number and it sounds fine.
Can anyone point me in the right directon with this one? I am convinced it is a Vonage fault but getting no where with them.
Thanks in advance. |

Cyberlander,
I suspect in this case the Vonage tech was incorrect.
In the UK from landlines and mobiles the ringtone is usually (if not alway) returned from the terminating exchange. As an example if you ring an Orange mobile phone from your BT landline you will hear a slightly different ringtone (first burst is long on Orange) to that if you ring a Vodafone, the reason been the manufactuer of the terminating switch (Nokia vs Ericsson in this example).
I would therefore expect when calling a Vonage line from a landline in the UK for the ringing tone I listen to to be returned from Vonage of their gateway, regardless which of the two it is more likely to be a Vonage issue.
Regards,
Paul |

Callers to my Vonage phone number get "foreign" style ringing tone too. Only noticed it today. |

I contacted Vonage again today as asked them why it was happening and insisted that the fault was with their networks. He spent 5 minutes typing something into his computer and said that it should now be fixed and to reset my router. I will do that when I get home from work and check to see if it is working correctly and will post back. |

Ring tone is now US style on our phone too, Hello! We don't live in the states, we're in the UK!!
When will these Voip people get things right for UK customers, it's always US or foreign settings and ring patterns
Just one problem after another.
Vonage Tech didn't know much about it and so I gave up as it takes to long to tell them when they're only used to US tones and settings... |

I managed to raise a case but it was hard work.
The thing that really worries me is who from Vonage is monitoring the service in the UK, anyone? How many times in this forum are customers reporting fundamental service issues, is there any UK technical support?

Vonage UK are now aware of this issue so I suspect it will now be fixed promptly.
