I purchased the WRTP54G router at Best Buy this weekend and was pleased everything was working until I started trying to use the Internet. I replaced an older wireless router that quit. Is there newer firmware I can download? Is there a better router that is available, I can still return this one. The Internet is basically unuseable, IM bounces, reaching mail servers sporadic, web sites usually do not come up. |

What firmware version do you have? The current one is 1.00.52 (look in the upper right hand corner of the login page). It should automatically be upgraded by Vonage (not Linksys) to that version. If it hasn't been, give Vonage a call and ask them to push it. |

Thanks for the reply, I called Vonage, was told their servers were down and they could not help me, were unable to answer some basic questions like do I have to have the phone line in the router to accept the firmware or is connection to the Internet adequate. I emailed them yesterday as well and have yet to receive a reply. I put the router in the same configuration that was working with the old one and 1 PC can connect to the Internet, as soon as the second one comes up everything pretty much quits. |

This router cannot be set up like a conventional router, and if you are following the instructions that came with the unit, it won't work. You best bet is to get on the phone with Vonage and ask for someone that knows this unit inside and out. Don't expect everyone to know about it, and certainly don't expect Linksys to help. |

Have you signed up for Vonage service yet? You MUST sign up or Vonage won't help you. I found that out the hard way. |

Experience so far seems like all they have are call centers out of the country - rates up there with calling my cable company in terms of levels of support - got to get past the gatekeeper.
btw, the router came with firmare version 18. Seems like I should be able to find the firmware on the Internet and load it myself. I will lose patience shortly and cancel the service and return the router. My teenagers are in rebellion with their lack of Internet. |

Go back to your original router until you get a service person in New Jersey. Tell the Indian on the other end of the line that you want someone at the home office who actually knows about this router. They can transfer you.
You MUST be a customer of Vonage to make this work. |

Yes, got the phone working with Vonage. When I built the house 6 years ago I put all cat5 in to a central point in basement for phone and Internet but the installer did not put a jack in the basement for the phone except to the alarm system so I had to hook it up upstairs with a 50' cable back to the router from cable box in basement. I was hoping the cable length was problem with Internet but NOT. My old router quit working plus the old old router also doesn't work anymore so am stuck -
Looks like I'm going to have to get into the junction box and wire a couple of phone connections in basement, what a pain. |
