Ok I have started to have this problem since mid last week. Basically, at first the person on the other line can't hear me but I could hear them. I got it working for a little while, but the problem gets worse. Now I can't hear anything on either side. However, when I directly connected my phone to the Vonage router, I can hear on both sides. So there is definetly some kind of house wiring problem. I've had this setup for over a year with no problems. I want to use all of my phones. I have removed the outside phone connection that are connected to my screws and taped them. I'm using the primary line for my Vonage. Plz someone help me quick.

Have you recently become a victim of one of the lastest strings of hurricanes? Is it possible your home wireing was flooded? Any rodent problems? Maybe a rat has chewed through your line?

Diagnosing problems like this can be a real bear. I'd start by unplugging all phones from the house wiring and then plugging the Vonage adapter in and adding just the phone that you know works when plugged directly into the adapter. If that doesn't work, I'd remove every cover plate on every wall jack and give the wiring a careful visual inspection. That includes the junction box where the POTS lines used to come in.

When you use your inside wiring do you have more than one phone connected? I know this sounds crazy and you probably already have done it. Reconnect to the house wiring and then go around and disconnect all the phones. Reconnect one-by-one until you have the problem, assuming it didn't happen with the first phone. If it did happen with the first phone, disconnect it and connect a different phone. If it still happens at least you have ruled out your phones. Otherwise you may find you have a bad phone.

My other thought will probably lead to input from the more technically astute on the forum. Which adapter are you using? Is it possible your adapter has become damaged such that your output talk voltage has dropped? At this point somebody else on the forum will have to step in, but I know that is possible.

Good luck!

yes i have already connected a phone directly to the adaptor and it works fine. No I'm not a victim of recent hurricanes. I'm thinking of changing the signal to a second line and see if that works. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, to use the Vonage line all around the house, you do the following right?
1. go outside to the telephone box
2. Disconnect the two wires that are plugged into the primarly line with screws
3. Put electrical tape around them.
4. Plug the Voip adaptor into the phone plug wall

Yes, that's basically it, though at my house item 2 would read: Disconnect the two pairs that connect to the two POTS landlines by simply unplugging them.

Now, what do you mean by changing the signal to another line? Have you tried the suggestions about unplugging all of your house phones except the one that you know works when plugged directly into the adapter? You really need to determine whether the house wiring is good when it is essentially unloaded.

well i converted my Vonage line to the secondary line (orange cable on the wall outlet). Um I don't think thats the problem, because i just tested my cordless and corded telephone. With my cordless I can't hear anything on both sides, but with my wired it works fine. I'm gonna test the bottom cordless phone and see if that works.

One piece of information that may help the numerous techies that try to help on this site is the make and model of all the phones you are using when connected to the house wires. Any information you can provide may give a clue. And I guess I misunderstood. Did you try each phone individually to see if one is pulling down the line?
