After 2 emails from support and failed attempts at resetting, I figured maybe I could try here. After Vonage working wonderfully for about 4 months or so, I find out Thursday that I have no dial tone. My internet has been working fine. The only thing different that happened that I can think of is that we had our cable upgraded to digital a week ago but I am doubting that is the cause. Here are the details, I appreciate the help!

1. Location: Laurel, MD
2. ISP: Comcast Cable
3. Upload and download speeds: 100.00 mps
4. Modem make and model:
LINKSYS etherfast cable modem model BEFCMU10
5. Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2
6. Setup of Network: Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
7. Issue: no dialtone, phone light on telephone adapter aren't lit

The lights are as follows:
the router: power: solid --- ethernet 2 & 3 solid yet sometimes flickers, 1 nothing -- phone: no lights ---- internet: flickering
the modem: power: solid --- link/act: flickering ---send: nothing ---- receive: flickering --- cable: solid

I did both of these ideas that Vonage support sent me:
1. Open the web browser of the Computer connected to the router. Enter
http:// (the Routers default local IP address) in the
web browsers Address field. Then press the Enter key. A screen
will appear and ask you for a User Name and Password. Enter "admin"
(the default) in the User Name and Password fields. Then click the
OK button.

and then this:
Thank you for contacting Customer Care. In regards with the issue that
you sent us, as you got "Settings Failed" we suspect a firmware failure
which could be corrected by a reset procedure. So, kindly do the
following "3 TIMES":
blah blah blah

Do I need a new telephone adapter?

Thanks in advance for any tips, the service people stopped emailing me Sad

Email is poor way to try to solve a problem like this. You should call customer service at 866 243 4357, assuming of course that you have or can borrow an alternate phone to use.

If you haven't run a test at www.testyourvoip.com, you should do so. The fact that your phone went out at about the time that the cable service was changed is suggestive, even though you think it's not the cause. Your upload and download speeds are both 100 mbps???

Tell us more about this "Settings Failed" business, customer service's reaction to it, and what, if anything, changed when you did the requested multiple resets.

Unfortunately, my cell gets horrible reception at home so I can't call Vonage to try and solve the problem. Sad The phone problem didn't happen until 5 days after we had the digital cable upgrade, that is why I didn't think it was the cause but yet, its the only thing that is different.

Here is what they told me to do after I got the "Settings are failed!" message:

---------------------------
Thank you for contacting Customer Care. In regards with the issue that
you sent us, as you got "Settings Failed" we suspect a firmware failure
which could be corrected by a reset procedure. So, kindly do the
following "3 TIMES":

Press down the reset button which can be found on the rear end on the
router for 45 seconds when the power is "ON_. After 45 seconds release
the reset button and wait till you get a solid green light on the
power. After that, unplug the power cable from the router. Wait for 20
seconds before you plug it back in. Then wait till the power light glow
solid.

After the above has been done 3 times please do the following:

1. Power off router, modem and computer.

2. Now plug power the cable back to the modem. Wait for 2 minutes till
it boots up.

3. Now, plug the power cable back to the RT31P2 router. Wait for 2
minutes till it boots up.

4. Now connect the computers to the router as it was connected before.
Power up the computer. Your Internet connection should work fine.

5. If you are able to go online, connect a telephone to the "PHONE 1"
port(MANDATORY) of the RT31P2 router using a standard phone line.

6. Wait at least five minutes for the RT31P2 router There may be
updates that need to be downloaded such as new firmware or changes to
the features. Please do not interrupt the configuration process by
unplugging
the power or lifting the receiver on your phone during the startup
process. Interruption of the startup may result in interruption of
service.

7. Pick up your telephone receiver and listen for a dial tone. If you
hear a dial tone, you have finished the installation and can begin
making calls.

If you face any trouble in between, please do reply to us with the
status of lights you see on the front panel of the device.
---------------------

Nothing changed after I did all this and this was the last message I received from customer service. I guess they gave up Sad

They don't do well with Email. Have you tried the test at testyourvoip.com? You have pretty much a plain vanilla setup. If the test works all right, then it's a very good bet that your adapter isn't working. Go somewhere where your cell works and give them a call. Reiterate the tests that you've already done and the Email exchanges that you've had. They should provide a new adapter.

By the way, your adapter should work anywhere. If you have a friend with broadband service, you could always try your adapter on his system and see if you get service. That would be additional evidence to present to customer support.

The Voip score was 4.2 so I guess it is the adapter then? Thanks for your help!

Given that your internet service is working, your setup is as you described, and you've tried re-setting factory defaults, my guess is that it's a bad adapter.
