how exactly does this bandwidth saver work exactly and what should i have it set up at?
I have cable modem and did a speed test and i was cruising at the speed i use too. Will altering my bandwidth saver solve this problem? Would my phone service quality suffer from this?
I just set up my Vonage account on 2/15/04 and received the hardware 2/18/04?
I also noticed the AIM and MSN instant messenger keep go offline, never happends before could anyone elaborate more on this issue? Have about 20 days left till i am able to return the product and cancell the service. |

-Vonage
-Macintosh Powerbook G4 12'
Haven't done the up/down speed test but will this afternoon. |

Well i checked out a few other forum and think i'll switch the ATA postion.
FROM> cable modem, ATA Vonage box, Router.
TO> Cable modem, Router, ATA Vonage.
Hope this solves my internet speed issue. Prefer internet speed over voice quality. Since i barely get usage out of the phone anyway. Got my cell phone for that. |

what traffic, phone call traffic? My wife and I barely use house phone. No traffic there, except the occasional telemarket. |

I plugged my phone adapter into my router and internet connection was faster. Probably because The Router is doing exactly what it is meant to do.. Route Traffic, so the Phone Adapter don't have to. |

I dunno if you guys saw the other post in here on how to get the Motorola ATA working as a pass-through.
Basically, my motorola box is set up for obtaining an IP address automatically (DHCP) and then I DISABLED DHCP/NAT on the LAN side.
My linksys router is set up as it always has been,... to obtain ip automatically, and to port fwd certain ports to my linux box... here's my topology:
Cable modem ---> Motorola ATA ----> Linksys 4 port router --> computers
This only works if your provider will allow you to grab two IP addresses from their DHCP server (Comcast allows this). Just make sure the Motorola box and the router have different IP addresses.
So even through the Motorola is out front, there are no issues with slowing down the connection because the Motorola box is a simple pass through now.....
There might be some issues with the motorola box getting ports scanned heavily, but I've had this setup for almost a week and haven't had to reboot once yet <knock on wood>.
The thing I like about it is that the Motorola box doesn't waste a port on the linksys box and that since it's out front, it can continue doing it's thing with respect to QoS.
Lemme know what you guys think, any bad experiences with this set up? Also, how can I tell which firmware version my Motorola box has?
