HAD a Verizon(exGTE) landline that I ported over to Vonage a month ago. Landline still has dial tone but if you attempt to make a call you get a marketing pitch to sign up for landline service. HOWEVER, the message says to hangup and dial 911 if this is an emergency. This message has now persisted since Verizon dropped my landline on 9/27. Anyone had this experience and KNOW how long this may persist? Not complaining. P.S. I have another home/office landline with Verizon (DSL attached to home/office line) so it's not like I need e911 on my old line. Just curious how long it may stay around. Very Happy

That is called Express Dialtone. Any home that has been newly built or has had Verizon phone service in the past has that. I beleive they are required to offer 911 service. I have not tried it myself since I have my house hard wired. It should not go away. Like I said I dont know if the 911 will work.

Mine still has the dial tone too. For the same reason. You can still dial 911 on it. And I have not taken time to connect my Voip system to the wires in the house. I bought a new multi-phone wireless system for my Vonage system and I have not seen a reason or taken time to hook up to my house wiring.

BUT, this does bring a reminder to everyone getting Vonage and wanting to hook up to house wiring! Don't forget to unhook the POTs line if you want to use the house wiring. Otherwise the voltage from the POTs line will damage your adapter. Or, in a lot of cases like yours, you may keep the old lines connect and buy a wireless system for Voip if your old POTs company keeps E911 active.

Thanks for the info. I also bought an expandable phone system when I decided to go to Voip on my residential line. But since Verizon is providing me with e911 guess I'll keep an old Ma Bell phone attached to one of the jacks.This way I'll have e911 in the event of a power failure.
