Post subject: Using RT31P2 Router After Cancelation
I am a current
Vonage
customer and used to have 2 phone phone
Vonage
lines. However, a few months ago I realized I didn't need both and canceled one line. I now have a RT31P2 Linksys router that was assocated with that account lying about.
I don't need (or want) to 'unlock' the box to use with a different carrier. I just want to use it as a normal, everyday router. Can I do that? Will it still try to 'call home' to
Vonage
even though I'm not using a telephone with it? Does
Vonage
care? Will
Vonage
still try and update the box with new firmware releases on a hard reset? Does it matter?
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Post subject: It will still be a router
You can plop it behind your cablemodem/dsl box and it will route just fine.
Whether or not fw will be upgraded is unknown - but really doesn't matter.
Yes - the box will still phone home to try to configure the voice ports - but the routing/hub function is not dependent on the voice ports lighting up.
