This brighthouse digital phone. sounds similiar to optimum and time warners digital phone. Those use their proprietary network as opposed to the internet so claim they get higher speeds.

It is more money, and you can't take it with you when you travel.

In my case Optimjum phone actually has ACR but I've taked to people b etween Vonage and optimum voice and it is not clear (while my other calls are crystal clear). Just my two cents.

They can claim whatever they want, but your calls are still going on the same coaxial cable line as your neighborhood's internet traffic, so all of the usual caveats of cable internet apply. Now, they might have the phone equipment at their headend, which would take your phone calls off their internet trunks at that point... BUT, I'm willing to bet that the phone call goes over the 'net at some point. (Most LD calls do now).

I TOTALLY forgot about the portability issue. You definitely can't take it with you, as they bolt it to the wall AND it only has a cable input, so even if you did unbolt it and take it with you, it won't work in hotels, other cable systems, etc.

Feature-wise, BH has close to nothing. Call waiting/Call forwarding / Caller ID and that's it. No simulring/call return/call hunt.

I also did some poking around, absolutely NO power backup with their system too.

Hmm...that's odd, as the BH tech I caught in the parking lot said the unit had no backup whatsoever. Regardless, the cable amps outside aren't on backup, so it's a lost cause at that point.

There are absolutly *NO* taxes on Verizon FiOS. If you get the 5/2 plan for 39.95 you pay 39.95 via Credit Card. No taxes at all on fiber Very Happy

I was quoting from an early post I saw on the service over at dslr. but I can't even find it right now, so they, me or the employee could be wrong. btw, a Vonage employee told me my number would be transferred in 20 business days, and that acr was coming soon, right after e911 which went into effect 6 months ago...or something like that Wink

Hmm... I have a difficult time believing that... esp. with how stubborn Verizon is at removing useless & extra charges. I've gone 'round & round with their customer support about the $6.50 "Federal subscriber line charge", which Verizon initially claimed was a federally-mandated tax... eventually they admitted that all $6.50/month goes straight into their pockets, and no, they wouldn't do anything to lower my bill.

The state & federal taxes don't apply with Verizon? are you sure 'bout that? At the very least, they'd have to collect sales tax.

If you lose power no Vonage either so what's your point? reebok when I had the viop and it was in testing they had both non backup modems and backup modems. It has been 9 months so maybe they are all backup units now

People posting here act like BH goes down all the time which is simply not the case. If you want to say everything is a bed of roses with Vonage let's talk about the long hold times if you ever need to call customer service to talk to someone.

I am not mobile anyway so being able to take my router places doesn't effect me. I don't really care.

I don't have an issue with Vonage never said I did but if you can double the increase of speed for same amount of $$ why not? I know some of you hate anything above 5mbps but speed would be the only reason for leaving.

Roadrunner hardly goes down for me and BH Voip goal I believe is like 95% uptime for the phone. Which is fine. Vonage from time to time have issues with area codes. I have yet to see someone post that Vonage has never went down.

If I lose power and am running on UPS or generator, my Vonage line still works fine...but I'm using DSL and there's nothing between me & the CO. The phone co's know about redundancy, cable does not. And at the other locations I'm at, the frame-relay connections will be running even when the power's out.

Same here I only lose Vonage if cable goes out and that is hardly the case here or if power is off for a while. My UPS gets drain.

95% uptime = downtime of 1 1/2 days a month...
