I dont see why you would want to pay those outrageous prices for BrightHouse Networks crappy Voip and their cable anyway. You can get Verizon FiOS more then likely if your in a brighthouse area and it is alot cheaper and has lower latency which is great for Vonage. Also you can get DirecTV which is alot cheaper and has been rated far superior in consumer reports vs digital cable. Also with digital cable only channels 100 and over are digital anyway.

Just think of all the interesting things you could buy by going Verizon FiOS/DirecTV/Vonage.

Well, I live in a BH area and I cannot get Verizon FiOS. Cry

And, I prefer BH digital cable to DirecTV. And, for me, it is cheaper. Very Happy

yeah and it's not too likely considering the entire county of pinellas isn't covered (where randy lind is judging from previous posts), and most of pasco still isn't, and hillsborough really isn't that much better. so unless you're in a fairly affluent area in hillsborough (for the most part), or a new neighborhood in pasco or hillsborough, and not in pinellas...

$174 I can get everything pretty much BH offers which is like $10-14 more then I pay now. That may seem like I will be paying more but my speed will be double the standard 5mbps.

For the most part, anything over 5M is useless. Most of the internet servers/routers won't pass traffic any faster than that (if even that fast). Now, if you're running a ton of simultaneous connections, THEN there is an advantage, but I've never seen even the most hardcore residential user ever use the full 5M down. As far as upstream goes, 1M is more than enough for most residential users as well. Unless you're hosting a streaming video server, anything above that's not going to do you much good. Even with a streaming video server, a 2M connection's only good for ~6 users, which isn't much.

I have 2 problems with Verizon's FIOS service. 1) Won't work in power outages. They will swear up & down that it does... and they're not entirely wrong, the phone portion will work for the first couple of hours, but no intertnet...and after those first couple hours, you're sunk. Not sure how things were over on the Pinellas side, but some parts of Tampa lost power for up to 15 days last year, and it didn't even get hit by anything significant, never even saw anything higher than 50mph winds at this place. 2) Part of the "installation" process is Verizon REMOVING your copper wires from the street to your house (and reassigning that copper pair in the trunk to others), so you're permanently stuck with Verizon. CLECs only have access to the copper, not the fiber. Verizon's a business, and like most businesses, is looking how they can increase profits and reduce the chances of users looking elsewhere.

Also, don't forget the 20% taxes & surcharges that Verizon has. The main reason I jumped ship to Vonage was to avoid all of that crap. Everything else is icing on the cake.

Simliar arguments still apply to BrightHouse, just with a few modifications. 1) they don't remove the copper wire (good). 2) Reliability is even less with BH than Verizon, as their cable amps along the street have no power backup on them. So, if there's a power outage down the street (between you and BH's headend) and you still have power, tough, your phone service is out.

The 20% taxes & fees still apply.

brighthouse networks only says that their digital phone is "as low as $39.95 per month"

If you are on the Vonage 500 plan that is more that 200% increase.

This brighthouse digital phone. sounds similiar to optimum and time warners digital phone. Those use their proprietary network as opposed to the internet so claim they get higher speeds.

It is more money, and you can't take it with you when you travel.

In my case Optimjum phone actually has ACR but I've taked to people b etween Vonage and optimum voice and it is not clear (while my other calls are crystal clear). Just my two cents.
