PostPosted: Fri Oct 21, 2005 12:45 am    Post subject: WRT54GX2 and R31P2 Problems Reply with quote Back to top

I recently lost my WAP and needed to buy a new Wireless Router. I purchased the WRT54GX2. Due to constraints in my wiring I need to place the WRT54GX2 in front of my R31P2. When I set up this configuration I get packet loss due to the fact that the WRT54GX2 SPI feature thinks that the the R31P2 is DoS attacking and starts dropping packets. The SPI is not configurable and I have already tried to put the R31P2 on the DMZ port but nothing helps.

I tried the R31P2 in front of the WRT54GX2 and have problems with either DNS or RAS due to the double nat.

Anyone have a setup similar to mine that can shed some light on how to get this to work? I love the Vonage service but need the better firewall and wireless coverage in the WRT54GX2 and it is starting to look like I will need to go back to a landline Sad

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

it thinks it's dos'ing and starts dropping packets? why do you think that?
at any rate, have you tried setting up qos for it? check your manual for instructions.

The DoS log shows what it thinks is an UDP DoS attack on the router from the IP of the RT31P2. I tried QoS. Anything else.

I have the same issue after replacing my dead WRT54G with the WRT54GX2. The phone worked, but you'd only hear about every other word on the phone in either direction.

Spent most of the morning working with Linksys Tech to resolve...after numerous rounds of resetting the RT31P2 it stopped picking up an IP address and essentially died.

I'm waiting for an RMA number...but I'm still interested in the resolution to this problem!

I've yet to hear of Voip work on any of the Linksys GX series routers... maybe someone who has had success with it could post their setup?

An update. I rewired, putting the RT31P2 in front of the WRT54GX2 and all seems to be working. More testing, but I've got a working phone and wireless internet connections.

Cabled the DSL Modem to the Internet port on the RT31P2 and set it to PPOE into my ISP (BellSouth). Cabled from an Ethernet port of the RT31P2 to the Internet port of the WRT54GX2 and set it to get an IP address through DHCP. Rebooted it all and I've got a phone line with no skips!

I've tried it with the Firewall enabled and disabled on the WRT54GX2 and there doesn't appear to be a difference......
