Everything works fine.... for a while.... as much as 12+hours....

Then the phone light goes out on the router and no dial tone.Resetting gets everything back.

I called tech support and they said that the router was unable to update its registration due to internet connection problems. They said the router sends reg. requests every 18 sec

I have roadrunner and it is never down.

The Vonage router is plugged into my main router (SEE SETUP BELOW). Tech support said to plug the Vonage router into my cable modem directly. I don't want to do that and will cancel the service if that is the only way the equipment will work. I do not understand why it works for an extended period, then dies.

My setup is as follows:
ROADRUNNER TOSHIBA CABLE MODEM
ROUTER (LINUX BASED)
DELL GIGABIT SWITCH
Vonage ROUTER

No computers plugged into Vonage router. High bandwidth over 4m down 350k up

Anyone else seen these problems? Is there a solution other than the Vonage router being the gateway?

I had the same thing happen on my rt31p2. Rebooting seemed to work the first day. On the second day it would disconnect in the middle of a call and rebooting didn't necessarily help. It was completely dead on the third day. The router part still worked fine, but the phone was gone. Soon afterwards, the two phone lights in the front started flashing in an SOS pattern (3 fast flashes, three slow flashes, 3 fast flashes). That's what finally convinced the Vonage people that my phone adapter was dead.

I got the adapter on Fri, started seeing this problem over the weekend.

Resetting still works so far but this is not an acceptable situation.

Thanks for the reply. Anyone else.???

Follow the advice from tech support as a _temporary_ measure. If it works, you know to look for a problem involving some of components that you've left out. If it still drops out, and you're convinced that the internet service is solid, then you know it's the telephone adapter.

Putting the Vonage router in front of my gateway presents problems on my network.

I do not understand the difference. I am not blocking ports, the Vonage router is fine for hours. I am just not set up to have a Vonage linksys router as my gateway....

it' can't cause that many problems, and you're not being told t oleave it that way, just try it for a day or 2 to see if it makes a difference, then you (and us here) can start to solve the problem...

this is ALWAYS step #1!

Well, if this is step 1 then I will have to cancel service.

I was told the Vonage equipment needed internet connection. I was not told Vonage equipment needed public internet connection.

Sorry

It's a temporary, troubleshooting step, but it's also your decision.

I can't say this clear enough. I CAN NOT put the Vonage router as the gateway. I understand the concept of troubleshooting. Normally I would do this but not on my network.

I understand networking, and I believe that if this is a solution then there is problem with Vonage.

If you are with Vonage, tell me why the linksys device can't contact the Vonage server. All the computers on my network have no problem. I have weather server which uploads every 30 minutes and logs any interruptions to the internet service. It has logged none in the last 30 days.

Why don't you cry about it? Sometimes that helps.

and what device are we talking about here? What firmware? Home wiring or direct to Vonage adapter?

call customer care (don't be scared) and have them check if there are timeouts on the config logs for your device, like if there is a firmware update or other profile change stacked up waiting for your device
