Back in my days, they did not give rebates...how's that?
So therefore there was not an issue with it. But, a very easy way to not worry about rebates etc is to have Vonage send the adapter. The activation charges can be waived if you ask...

Same here... I signed up with Vonage directly and did not have to worry about rebates.

However, when I do purchase something that has a rebate attached I go straight home and READ THE REBATE INFORMATION. Again, there is no "trick" to receiving your rebate other than being able to read and follow directions. Rolling Eyes

I've gotten a rebate every month since I signed up! It has been about $100 per month. No forms to fill out. Just made one purchase, one online sign-up, and one call to a now former supplier. And I can't be happier!

(In other words, even though I did get my rebate check, I wasn't too concerned after I saw the difference in my monthly bill.)

I do have one complaint. Every dime I have saved now goes to BP or Marathon or Shell or etc. etc.

Very true! I wish I wasn't stuck in line at Shell this morning behind one guy who was filling up 2654 gas cans it seemed...Having to pay 3.06 for gas is bad enough, but having to stare at the price in line while he filled up tons of Dixie cup sized gas cans?
So annoying.

galion, it can not be more true than that, we all are saving a lot each month, just by having suscribed with Vonage.

Still, you also are the only one so far in this thread who claims having received his rebate with Vonage, and if I understand well, not by a credit in your account as mentionned in the rebate, but by receiving a cheque? Good for you!

For all the others, the idea of ordering the adapter online seems to have served you well also. The rebate thing is probably just a trap as mentionned in the first post at the beginning of this thread.

Let's see if others manifest their experience in receiving the famous rebate...supposely by Staples up here!

The reason I called it a trap is that there were three different rebates, two that you could NOT send in for over a month, and the other that you HAD TO send in before the month.

I remember now that I did read all forms up front. I was ready at that time to send everything in. I saw that two of the forms could not be sent in until a month later, I also noted that there was a money back guarantee if I returned it to the store within something like 30 days. I am fairly certain that I could not do that if I cut off the required documentation for the rebate.

I then decided to give it a little time.

The next time I looked at the forms, I only looked at one of them, and noticed again that I had to wait for the first statement. Having forgotten that one form had to be earlier, I only saw that I had to wait until I had my monthly statement.

I agree, it's my fault. But first, there's the trap that all the forms cannot be sent in at once... along with the fact that the money back guarantee conflicts with the rebate. And finally, there's pissing off customers... in this case, customers who have a continuous relationship, rather than a one-time purchase.

As far as that customer "service" rep, I was trying to explain the situation; she simply told me that if I had missed the deadline, there was nothing that could be done. I then found myself explaining to a dead line.

Yes, it was a rude rep you got if they truly just hung up. But just imagine how much money would be given away if everyone called and said they missed the deadline for the rebates.

Of course there are a couple of questions I have always had about coupons and rebates:

(1) Why have rebates? Just cut the price up front. Or, if it is based on service then just give me a credit after the amount of time. The company already knows I have the equipment because it is registered. But, the simplist solution is cut the price up front.

(2) Why have coupons? Just cut the price up front. It causes more work for the consumer, for the stores, and for the company.

The reason: it is a gamble you will misread or not bother with them. For example, the grocery store prints a big ad with coupons. You plan on taking advantage so you go to the store. You forgot the coupons. But you there already so somebody gets a bigger profit depending on if it is a store coupon or a manufacturer coupon. So, in that respect, I agree that all coupons and rebates are a trap, or in the eye of the companies, a gamble. They roll the dice that you will be attracted by it but not use it.

I think Vonage would be better off to just go back to the days of no coupon or rebate. If they want to give the adapters away, then give them away.

I should give one clarification on my rebate. I did get my rebate check. It was from Best Buy so it may not be the same rebate check you guys were offered. And there is that fact I mentioned earlier that they registered my MAC address as I was checking out.

As I had suggested elsewhere, the whole thing would be simpler if they just let the Circuit City and Best Buy stores implement your service at the store. Then you know the unit works and is registered. At that point they could take care of any give aways, refunds, and rebates. Then you wouldn't have people so confused or upset.

I personally would still have bought my PAP2 without a rebate, but since they offered it they should pay it. In that respect maybe Vonage should rethink marketing rather than take the traditional rebate / coupon path. Their other marketing was unique and it worked. Otherwise they wouldn't have the biggest install base.

I submitted all the required bits and pieces for a $50 PAP2 rebate purchased at CC, and guess what - 6 weeks after mailing it, Vonage Rebate center has no record of the submission. CC had two other rebates for the PAP2 that I have already received. So in all the many rebates I have submitted in the last few years, this is the only one that has simply disappeared. Now I get to re-submit to the Vonage Rebate Resubmit department for run-around part II.

So it doesn't seem to matter if you follow all their rules if the rebate never gets into the system.
