PostPosted: Tue Oct 18, 2005 7:53 am    Post subject: What ports to forward to WRT54GP2? Reply with quote Back to top

I recently changed my setup from DSL modem directly to WRT54GP2 to the introduction and replacement of the modem to a Siemens Speedstream 6520 Wireless ADSL Gateway (replaces the DSL modem; acts as modem/router/wireless router).

Performance on my WRT54GP2 has deteriorated. It still works, but not as well.

I tried Linksys technical support to find out what range of ports the WRT54GP2 uses so that I can forward ports in the ADSL gateway to allow traffic straight through, but all Linksys technical support will say is that it doesn't need any ports forwarded to it and to try switching from WAN installation port to LAN installation port (which doesn't work, at all).

Does anyone know what ports the WRT54GP2 uses? (or where I might check to find out?).

Thanks

Try this:
    5060 - 5061
    10000 - 20000

Thanks.

Do you know if I should try TCP or UDP or both?

Here are the ports Vonage recomends for the PAP2 so it should be the same ports

DNS: Port 53 UDP (Domain Name Server - for resolving server IP addresses)

TFTP: Port 69 UDP (for profile upgrades/downgrades)

HTTP: Port 80 UDP (for firmware upgrades/downgrades)

NTP: Port 123 UDP (Network Time Protocol - so the device can sync to the proper time for Caller ID)

SIP: Port 5061 UDP is used for older Vonage devices (devices provisioned before 2005) Also, BSP Proxy Groups 1-8, and a.voncp.com communicate on port 5061.

The following ports are needed for INCOMING and OUTGOING Internet communications from and to Vonage devices and servers.

RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP. When a call is made, a random port between 10000 and 20000 is used for RTP (Voice) traffic. If any of these ports are blocked, you may experience one way or no audio

OK, so you gave us the ports we need to forward, but to what ip address? on the WRT54GP2 the voice jacks are integrated on the device, there is no PAP with it's own distinct ip. Any help?

Tyler - You only need port forward when you phone adapter is a seperate device from your router...

You would forward these ports to the IP address of your WRT54GP2. If you have the WAN port of your WRT54GP2 connected to your existing router then you would forward to the IP address of the WAN port on your WRT54GP2.

If you ONLY have the WRT54GP2 then there is no need to forward any ports since there is nowhere to forward them to. Very Happy

I have got similar sort of problem. I have two SIP phones and i want both of them to connect of a Wireless ADSL router from safecom called SAWMR-54108 and some one told me that it needs certain ports to be forwarded. Now the problem is how am i going to forward this no. of ports as there are only limited no. of ports that i can forward in that router. Secondly its not possible to forward certain ports twice for differnet clients as i am having two SIP phones.

Please advice..

WRT54GP2 AND HOW TO FIND THE IP ADDRESS OF ITS "BUILT-IN" ata DEVICE.
MY PROBLEM IS I CANNOT RECIVE INCOMING CALLS AND IT LOOKS LIKE EITHER I HAVE TO DMZ AN IP ADDRESS OR TO PORT FORWARD CERTAIN PORTS TO THE IP ADDRESS OF THE BUILT-IN ADAPTER....BUT THERE IS NO WAY I CAN FIND THE IP ADDRESS OF THE BUILT-IN ATA INTO WRT54GP2...
PLZ HELP ME FIGURE THIS OUT OR ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS SO I CAN START TO RECEIVE INCOMING CALLS
MY ROUTER IS 198.162.15.1== IP ADDR OF ROUTER AND DHCP STARTS TO ASSIGN FROM 198.162.15.100 ONWARDS
i TRIED dmz 198.162.15.103 AND THAT I WAS ABLE TO RECIEVE CALLS BUT THAT LASTED FOR TWO DAYS AND FOR SOME REASON IT STOPPED AGAIN..I AM SUSPECTING THAT MAY BE MY ROUTER RFREHED OR DROPPED THE IP ADDRESS THAT I DMZ'ED SO ITS IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO ASSIGN STATIC IP TO MY "PORTION" AND DMZ IT OR PORT FORWARD

please SUGGEST A RESOLUTION

aLSO PLZ LET ME KNOW HOW I CAN FROM MY PHONE, KNOW THE IP ADDRESS OF MY PHONE-ADAPTER. I TRIED ****110# BUT THAT DOES NOT WORK...THX ALOT
