I don't know about this one. I think you would have to really trust your internet connection to use vonage for your alarm system. |

Yeah I'd be inclined to agree, in a Internet or Power outage your phone would be hosed, which is when you're most likely to be needing it. (To either ring your ISP and complain, or find out **** is going on with the power).
Just my 2p's worth. |

I use mine with my ADT system. I do however have a radio backup in case of phone line failure which is a common sop for real thiefs. I would not trust my ISP or Verizon for real security. If you do use it you should call you alarm company because most use an 800 number that confirms what number is calling in. If your system calls in on a different number they may suspect tampering perticulerly it it from a different are code as your home or business as Vonage allows. |

Seeing as the vonage ATA unit provides a standard telephone connection, I'd guess you'd plug your alarm into it in the same way you would a regular phone socket. |

Not hardly. Alarm systems use an RJ-31X jack. In a nutshell, this type of jack allows your alarm system to "seize" the line, disconnect all telephones in your house, and then place the call. Look at the very first post in this Forum for more information on how an RJ-31X is properly wired.
BTW, I have an ADT panel which is being monitored by a local Central Station, not ADT ($12/month vs ADT $$$$). My panel places a daily call to the Central Station to verify connectivity. I switched to Vonage 14 months ago and haven't had any problems. |
