my kid has a toy vtech phone, it worked for about a month then he dropped it and then, it wouldn't even beep. From what I hear the Vtech phones made for use with Vonage are about the same level of quality. People get them home from the store and the batteries won't charge or the handset won't register with the base.

I understand you are able to plug this phone in to your existing router, is that correct? Have you tried this?

I know you can use it as you regular router, but I have a pretty advanced network with quite a few computers and want to have it ride off my exisitng router.

Please let me know, thanks!

Yes you can put it behind a router - that's how I have it now, at one point it was behind 2 routers, a D-link di-624 and an rt31p2. call quality was grand, and I could have a call on both the Uniden and my rt31p2 with no problems.

Sounds good, did you test it while playing any games or multimedia streaming???

I didn't try playing any games through the Uniden's built in router, other beta testers did though, along with SSH, VPN, thin client applications, all sorts of other things. There have already been a few firmware revisions.

One other thing, there are no other phone jacks on the Uniden, so I can't see how you can hook up a regular wired phone to it. I even picked the thing up and looked on the bottom and sides. You can add up to 10 handsets though. There is a blue WAN port and a yellow LAN port and that's it. Perhaps later hardware versions will have a couple of RJ11 jacks on the side, because in the test account I have set up with that Uniden phone, unlike accounts with a Vtech device, it shows line 1 and line 2. The phone I have does not have the capability for 2 lines though.

Yes, I read the final version will have one jack to plug in, or piggyback an anolog phone to. Not sure how this would work exactly...I assume it would fool the analog phone into thinking it had signal and you could then use the phone, or phone sets that go along with it within your phone network in the house?

As to gaming, I was just wondering if you had the unit connect via your existing router (and were not using the built in router) how the quality would be....if you haven't game, have you done any multimedia streaming at least while on the phone?

Not on the Uniden phone, but I have done shoutcasting audio while talking on my RT31p2, which the Uniden is chained behind, and not noticed any problems.

Of course, 9.6Mbps down /860kbps upload speed may help with that.

The phone is going to retail for about 190 simoleans.

As for how they can piggy back an RJ11 on to this device, well that's easy. The phone IS the phone adapter, and line 2 will be assigned to that secondary jack, for adding in a fax machine I suppose...But then...what if you wanted to use that jack to instead spread the line 1 signal through your house wiring? They are going to have to put 2 RJ11's on it

Thanks...I think their is one port for a fax and one for a regular analog line as well, but I am not positive. It says, "supports 2 Voip Voice Lines And 1 Voip Fax Linefull Fax Support Including Fax/modem Detection And Fax Relay"

I assume that analog line is actually then for the fax to be hooked up, but perhaps that's in addition. You might ask them, as you are beta testing Wink
