Has anyone had a this problem using *99? I have read that is used as a dialing prefix for faxing and alarm monitoring. When I try to dial *99, all I get is a fast busy. Any suggestions? |

I'm using a Linksys RTP300. After talking to 6 different tech support people, it seems that this may be a function of the TA and may be a firmware problem. This is the response I got from one tech support person:
Thank you for contacting customer care. As for your *99 issue, according to our engineering department, since the feature just sets your bandwidth the HIGHEST setting per call. Since your account is already set to the highest setting, when you dial *99, it fails to change the codec. If you lower your bandwidth setting using bandwidth saver and then try, it will go through.
This does not work!
By the way *70 does not work either. |

I thought *99 was to block call waiting is this not the case. |

*99 isn't needed with the RTP300 terminal adapters if you're running the highest (90kbps) codec. As far as *70 not working, if it's not working, you need to call up tech support and they'll fix it. For some reason, these boxes originally shipped with those settings screwed up and Vonage tech support can fix it within a minute or two of calling them. |

Try this- set your bandwidth to less than 90kbps then try *99. (RTP-300) If I remember it still does not work but its been a few weeks since I did it. Supposedly it will be fixed with next firmware update. |

If you have your bandwidth saver set to the maximum setting, *99 does not have any effect. If you decrease your bandwidth for regular calls, then *99 will temporarily change it to the maximum amount. |
