Hi - I'm thinking of jumping on the Vonage bandwagon. I'm currently using Telus (Lower Mainland) for home phone and hi-speed internet. While I must admit I can't complain about the Telus internet service, I want to get more out of my $45/month fees. So I'm planning on replacing my home phone with Vonage. But is that going to affect how Telus bills me, or are they just going to play dirty sensing the Vonage MAC address? Does anyone have this setup and is happy with it? I've been reading horror stories about defective adapters and having phone service cut out completely while things are mailed across North America. But that was back in August, so maybe it's been resolved.

I would drop Telus altogether, but I've heard nasty stuff using Shaw and Vonage as well. And I may have inadvertantly agreed to a one-year contract with Telus for hi-speed internet (tricky bastards). Plus I don't like what they're doing to the union here in BC.

Thanks all!

I have Shaw and use Vonage and I haven't had any problems. Unfortunately, Telus doesn't offer DSL "dry" so you wouldn't be saving as much money if you chose to keep Telus as your ISP, as they will force you to pay for a residential phone line as well (that's the real "playing dirty" trick). As far as I know, nobody offers DSL dry in Vancouver as I have checked around. If you switch to Shaw as your ISP, you could cancel Telus completely and maximize your savings.

I would also recommend buying your adapter rather than having Vonage ship it to you. It is quicker and with the rebate, it is cheaper also.

If you drop your Telus "landline" service, Telus will charge you $15.00/month for their so called "dry" service. However, if you have cellphone service through Telus, they will waive the $15.00 charge. Telus says that they must assign a numbered circuit to you, whatever that means, hence the charge. To get the waiver, apparently you have to go through Telus "customer service" and not through Telus "billing".

By the way, I'm using Shaw Cable as my ISP and have had no problems whatsoever for over six months now. Lol

So, Telus does offer dry DSL then? Do you know what they charge?

I believe the charges are $24.95/month for Telus High Speed and $19.95/month for Telus High Speed Lite.

Thanks, I was under the impression that DSL had to be bundled with landline service due to CRTC restrictions on telcos even though from a technological standpoint, it is not necessary to have them bundled.
