Hi all,
Was watching the X factor last night and when it came to the voting the kids picked up the Vonage line and dilled the 0901 numbers to vote for their favorites.
What they got was an American recorded announcement say something like "the number you have called is blocked, please call customer services".
The kids were a little hacked off and had to revert to the mobile and text.
I called customer services who suggested everything should be fine and passed me onto support, support raised a ticket.
Now I appreciate these are premium rate numbers but I would expect them to work.
Anyone else got any experience of premium rate numbers, in particular those beginning 0901.
Regards,
Paul |

premium rate numbers starting 09 are blocked by vonage uk - or so I was told when I enquired earlier this year.
When I asked why, the support person said that it was because a majority of customers do not call premium rate numbers. Makes sense I suppose, but this doesnt help the people that may need to call an 09 number from their vonage phone. |

the same goes here in Canada/USA we cannot call 1-900 or 976 numbers either, those are premium numbers in North America..
I suspect it's a billing issue, the premium rate centre see's a number comming form New Jersey, all vonage customers would show the same number, so Vonage would get billed for every call and not know who (which customer) to pass the bill on to.. |

Indeed I dont really want / need to dial 09*** numbers, but I dont see the inability to do so as a feature at all, but as a service limitation.
I'd be quite annoyed if I was, for example, a competition freak and got Vonage then found out I couldnt dial what is a quite normal number to dial. Allegedly because most people dont want to do it!
Actually almost as annoyed as I will be if I have to buy a BT line just to keep Sky because Sky and Vonage won't talk.

Surely the Caller ID should be yours, not a generic one in New Jersey? As for Sky and Vonage, this seems to be a general problem with VoIP. |

I see 09*** numbers will be soon available:
On my dashboard service news it says:
"We are also providing access to premium rate numbers starting 09; please remember that calls to premium rate numbers can be expensive and that you are responsible for paying the bill. Visit www.vonage.co.uk for details."
No charges or other details yet posted on vonage.co.uk that I could see. |
