Post subject: How DO I USE EXISTING IN HOME WIRING ?
I just ordered
Vonage
and am waiting for the Phone Adapter to arrive. Under the FAQ on the
Vonage
website for the question "Can I use multiple phones with your service?", there are 4 ways listed. I'd like to figure out the 4th option which is to plug the Phone Adapter directly into the existing wiring in my home.
The FAQ States the following:
"Some of our customers have plugged the Phone Adaptor directly into the existing telephone wiring in their homes. The manufacturer of the adapter does not recommend hooking anything to the adaptor other than a telephone, but you can seek advice from an electrician or someone who is familiar with internal telephone wiring on how to best connect it to your current wiring to take advantage of multiple extensions. We would advise that you precheck the wiring on the jacks to make sure you don't have live PSTN voltage on the jacks before connecting them to the Phone Adaptor (this can be easily done by using a line tester such as those that are available at Radio Shack). Be advised that any damage resulting from practices contrary to manufacturers' recommendations for the Phone Adaptor will not be covered by warranty."
Can anyone offer advise on this topic?

What you need to do is first disconnect from the outside telephone line. It has a current that will fry your ATA. Then when you are sure that there is no current in you internal home wireing you can connect the ATA into any phone jack and all the other phone jacks will work over
