One last question before I buy. As far as performance goes, will I notice a difference in Internet speeds if I have an router that does it all? Should the voice router be seperate from my internet router?

If you already have a network and don't need the router capabilites, go with the Pap2 etc...
Personally I like the RT300 they send...It's a good piece of hardware.

I'm using the PAP2 connected to my existing router/LAN and it works great. If you don't already have a router then definitely get the Vonage combo. I don't think putting a router behind a router is the best setup only in as much as it tends to have more potential setup issues (although it can be done successfully of course). The PAP2 firmware seems to be more stable currently than the router/adapter combo that Vonage is supplying based on the number of firmware update threads I've read here. I can tell you that my experience setting up the PAP2 couldn't have been easier - literally plug and play on a port of my router.

Both solutions work, so in the end it is just your preference that counts.

Actually, the RPT300 is a very stable piece of hardware.

My only concern would be that the OP has expressed a concern about internet speeds. With an RTP300, won't the phone automatically get priority?

Personally, that's the way I want it, and reducing phone bandwidth can compensate. Still, it may be an issue.

It's all got to come from somewhere...I don't notice any speed differences with the router..only when on the phone.

I have a PAP2 with a router. The router / Roadrunner service had been in place over a year before I got my PAP2. So far no problems. I like the idea of separate components so it is easy to replace and upgrade. I think it might be easy to troubleshoot too. But, its kind of like do you like a red shirt or a white shirt. Everyone seems to have their favorite.

Yes, everyone has their favorites. I think it often comes down to this - the real "techies" prefer separates, because that generally gives more control and configurability, and if something breaks, EVERYTHING doesn't break - but its harder to setup and configure for optimum performance. Those who are not so much techies prefer the all in one more often because its less complicated - at least that's my experience.

Being a techie, I prefer separates. So........ I'm using a RT31P2 behind my WRT54G wireless router. Why the Vonage router instead of just a PAP2? Well, umm.... one reason - because it looks so darn good in the stack with the WRT54G and the BEFCMU10 cable modem! <sheepish grin> I've turned off all the router functions - NAT, DHCP, and don't use any of the LAN ports on the RT31P2, so I'm basically using it as an adapter.
