I just went through the math and figure out I would have to talk 757 minutes a month to save money with the unlimited plan vs paying for the overages on hte 500 minute plan. Does this sound right? |

Sounds okay to me. There's only like a $20 fee for "upgrading" from the 500 minute to unlimited, so if you're debating, try the 500 plan for a few month, then upgrade if you need to. I'm on the 500 plan and I have yet to exceed 400 minutes a month. |

Yep. $10.00 / $.039 = 256.4 minutes over 500 before the bill would begin to exceed $24.95. Also consider that what this means is that you would have to regularly exceed this number of minutes to make the unlimited plan worthwhile. Even if you did go over now and then it would likely still be cheaper than locking into an additional $10 / month ($120 / year) for the unlimitted plan, assuming, that is, that there would also be months where you would use significantly fewer than 757 minutes. |

I looked at the unlimited plan because I figured I would save money because then I would pay overages.. boy was I wrong... |

You could have done a lot worse. My local cable company has just introduced their own VOIP service with unlimited local and LD for "as low as $39.95 / month". Comparing that to Vonage's rates probably provides a good illustration of just how much the cable provider is screwing us over with their CATV and broadband rates. |

opi, we're got Time Warner (RoadRunner) here in Houston as well - they're running this special for "TV, digital phone and Internet" for $99 mth. This caveat is this is a lower rate for a few months. The VoIP is $39.99, the cable is digital (read, more $$), and RR is $45/mth here.
I get Internet via RR to Earthlink (mindspring) for $42/mth, DirecTV, and Vonage, all for about $120/mth. |

Our rates here are the same. Bright House (aymk) is a spinoff of TW. Yeah, it seems all the communication providers these days are offering these great promotional deals for a few months. Apparently there are lots of folks who never look beyond the promotional pricing. New suckers born every minute. |

I could of gone with Qwest's OneFlex....
$29.99 per month
$0.05 per minute LD
$2.99 LD Fees
+ Taxes and Surcharges
But of course that is more expensive than my POTs was..... With about the same features...
Cox doesn't offer VoIP |
