| if your paying for broadband cable and can't use vonage, your not getting your moneys worth. take the above advice and call your cable company.. most likely your cable modem has outdated DOCSIS 1.0 firmware, and your lines in your yard are no good.. give them a call! |
This can't be true in my case. This is passing the buck. I have a Time Warner Digital Phone that works 100% A+ Perfect.
I also have a Vonage line that uses that same cable modem. The vonage connection is spotty--it gets echoes, dropped calls, delayed voice mails, etc. If I could find one consistant problem, I could try and find the problem, but each call has different issues and sometimes the call will be excellent. Very inconsistant performance.
Vonage, or whoever/whatever it is routing/switching through, is clearly the problem. My packet latency is fine.

When I first got Vonage on TWC Houston, everything was cool.
Then I got a second line with Vonage and had problems.
I ended up calling Vonage with the problem as I was having the same types of problems. I found out that both lines were trying to use the same TCP port, which causes one or the other to knock out. Vonage tech rep at the time changed the port number on the second line and I hadn't had that problem since. My current problem with the VoIP is related to Time Warner and construction in the area (digital cable and internet are affected).
I would call Vonage and have them setup your line to use another TCP port (or you can call Time Warner to make their phone service use another...however, I think you'll have better luck with Vonage tech support than with Time Warner). This, hopefully, will cure your issue. |

Thanks! That makes perfect sense and sounds like great advice. However, I've already given up and switched back to SBC for local service. :-/
Thanks for your reply,

i also have twc my problems it that 7p-12a the voip is unusable due to packet losses. we even see it in surfing and email during the day it is fine..i'm waiting till monday to call out a tech. i belive they just have too many people on the cable line and that is whats dragging it down. because everything is perfect 12a-7p. i am going to use the tactic that i would like to switch to their digital phone once my year is up with vonage but why should i when they cannot provide a reliable connection at night.
i'm on the rosenberg switch |
