I think I have been at least partially lucky with this issue. My CID works without failure *if* I connect my Vonage adapter *after* the RJ31 port on my punch down board. If I correctly connect it before the RJ31 port then CID performance is sporadic.

My theory is that I am getting just enough loss of some sort across the RJ31 to affect my performance.

Brinks is coming out tomorrow morning to get my alarm system up and running again, which means I will have to connect my line in the correct place if I want the cut-off switch capability. I am going to try a couple of things this evening to see if I can get things working in this configuration.

BTW, my wife absolutely *must* have CID working. When I was messing with it last week and it didn't work for an hour or so it got mentioned.

I would expect that the next firmware release might fix all of this; however, I wonder what problem they thought they were fixing in someone's configuration by messing with it in .55 in the first place? It may be that there is no one good configuration for everyone. A very good reason they should open up these devices to more user-custom settings.

Oh, back to your question....Look back several pages of this subject and you will see an earlier post from me on what to do (Call Vonage and tell them to implement the changes I've stated earlier). If they ask if you're using house wiring, tell them no and that you want the changes I've stated implemented on your RTP300. Afterwards, your caller ID should be fixed. Let me know how it goes.

I requested that the settings you recommended be used.

The first Vonage tech refused to make the changes.

The second Vonage tech came back with this response:

"Douglas,

The information you provided was not all correct. I did however make
the correct adjustments. See the thing is there are a few different
ring cadences, and the firmware .55 does change the on-hook settings."

So I'm not sure what he changed, but i won't be able to test until tonight. We'll have to see then.

It seems they really are not quite in sync at Vonage tech support on this. My caller ID is working now, but I really do not know for sure what the settings are. As I posted earlier, on Sunday I requested that Mr. Sorrento's recommended settings be applied, and they were, at which point caller ID worked 100% of the time on my Uniden phone, but only 66% on my ATT phone. On Sunday evening, the tech rep who was assisting me called and told me that "they" (I assume the Vonage engineers) had told him that the 45 Volt setting was correct, but the ring cadence change was not needed. So in hopes of getting caller ID to work on the ATT phone, I agreed to have the ring cadence returned to it's default setting. After this change was made, the CID peformance actually got signficiantly worse, only 43% success on the ATT phone, and 57% on the Uniden. When the Vonage tech rep called me back I told him that resetting the ring cadence had made the situation worse.

I never heard from this rep again. But overnight I got an email from another Vonage person indicating that they believed they had fixed the problem. However, he did not state what changes had been made. So while I know that my caller ID is working on both phones, I can not state exactly what changes Vonage has made. Confused

Vonage fixed mine too last week and the only change I can measure is the line voltage drop to 45. I replied to a CS rep in an email last night with this:

...Even if we cannot change the values, I wish there was a way to _see_ the various hidden voice related settings in the RTP300. It would be useful to screen capture the voice related settings that work correctly now, so these values could be compared after future firmware updates, in case any feature such as Caller ID is lost after a firmware update.

Too bad the router config files are not human readable XML or old fashioned INI files instead of the BIN config files that are used now.

Vonage has caught up with the forum, I called today with these instructions from Mr. Sorrento:
"Mr_Sorento wrote:
For everyone with the RTP300 still having Caller ID problems, try the following:

Call up and either speak with a good CS rep or Tech Support rep and ask them to change your ring [1] cadence value to: 0xFFFFFCC000000000

Also, have them change your on-hook-voltage from 48 to 45"

and the Vonage tech said those were on this screen too as the fix. Of course, why not deploy system wide, I don't know. But it did work.

The ring cadence trick actually works in most cases, changing the voltages around too, although that is mostly for home wiring CID failures. I usually make all 3 changes in the customers device properties and have them reset. Success rate is very good actually, multiple test calls from Vonage and PSTN work after these changes almost every time. There are exceptions though, not every phone is built the same, wiring differences, etc...

Every CSR tier 2 and above should know how to perform these changes - if they do not it's because they have chosen not to read the numerous emails and advisories about this that everyone else seems to know about, and they betta axe somebody.

Vonage is moving to our new building this weekend, after the move is complete, there is another 'fix' to be rolled out, I can't wait.

After numerous calls trying to get the CID fixed, I gave up entirely. I called SBC and they will be reinstalling my line tomorrow. (They have all sorts of bonuses and discounts for reconnecting.) In the meantime, I got an email from tech support telling me that they made fixed that should clear up my problem. Yup. Sure enough the CID has been working fro two days. I'm not sure if that's suppose to be cosmic irony or not, but either way, I don't have the problem anymore.

With Vonage, it just seems to be too little too late. I wish y'all luck in the future. Sprint

skdvr369,
I'm glad to hear someone reads the things I've posted regarding this problem! I'm also glad to hear your problems seem to be fixed now. Mine is all still working without ANY problems, (except now I'm having intermittent choppy voice - still working with Tech Support on this one, may be my RTP300 starting to go out or something - don't know). Anyways, I hope things continue to go well for you.

ColdGin, it's so nice to have one of Vonage's finest on here with us. I sure wish more of Vonage's CS and Tech reps would follow the posts on this board and listen to it's customers!

seeker_ktf,
It sounds like they have FINALLY fixed your problems, but like you said "too little, too late". I completely understand and can't say I blame you. However, keep in mind, Vonage will always be willing to take you back if you desire in the future. Stay tuned in with this website to follow Vonage's ongoing future. Take care and we wish you the best! (seriously)

After many calls and emails to Vonage I just talked to Nick who knew about and made the suggested changes and at long last CID has returned!

Guess my only complaint is why is it taking so long to get this fix out and why wasn't it fixed for everyone without the need to have to ask for it and will this fix still be working tomorrow?

Thanks to everyone here who made this fix possible.
