I have beaten the subject of Sprint and their interest in Vonage to death in another topic. But what about BellSouth? What do we find in their treasure trove website? Well, it seems a little more Voip friendly. Here is Mr. Banks' statement about Voip and the FCC (the whole page can be found here.
Quote: | "The FCC took a critical step towards encouraging the deployment of IP-enabled services, such as Voip, by recognizing the inherent interstate nature of such services. The future of these and new, innovative IP-enabled services depends critically on investment in next-generation network facilities. The FCC must act to ensure that the investment these networks require will not be hampered by regulation.
"We encourage the commission to complete in short order the work it has started here by establishing a similar regime for all IP-enabled networks and services in its 'IP-enabled' rulemaking proceeding. Such a decision would go a long way toward eliminating uncertainty and allowing quicker introduction of new and more efficient services." |
Now that is a little more positive than Sprint. But, the more interesting link is this partnership with Sprint which I quote below but the link can be found here.
Now I know we are talking about a business network, but read it closely:
Quote: | "BellSouth customers will now have nationwide access to leading data capabilities, including full mesh connectivity and class of service priority routing to support converged applications," said Fred Shaftman, president, BellSouth Business. "Teaming with other industry leaders to bring both traditional and next generation solutions to business customers continues to be an important part of BellSouth's strategy." |
Could a partnership ensue? I can't believe these two would partner on Voip, but remember how Cingular started? It is still a joint venture between SBC (60%) and BellSouth (40%). Maybe we see Vonage as a joint venture if it sells. |
