Well it seems that Congress may have a different opinion about the FCC pushing E911 and cutting off customers from Voip. It seems Voip was a life saver during Katrina. Check this out:

As for this continual discussion on ACR and DND, it has been discussed a lot. But, I haven't gotten too excited because when I had ACR on a POTS line it did not really help. Caller ID spoofing will need to be solved first. I think the external box feature we've seen discussed may be a good solution, but would fall prey to spoofing as well. Maybe the FCC should spend a little effort on Caller ID spoofing.

Did you ever notice who builds all this auto dial equipment that helps the people generate all these sales calls? One is Avaya, a spinoff from Lucent, which was a spinoff from AT&T. Remember the Telezapper? It generated the first tone of the SIT sequence to make the autodialer think the number is disconnected. Now Avaya brags on their advertising that they have autodialers that wait for the whole sequence. So the people helping you with the old POTS parts and even tinkering in Voip parts are helping our telemarketers get around our blocking. If you don't know about SIT tones, I would suggest some good reading as sites such as this:The Telemarketing Scum Page. It might be a little on the wild side, but it will help.

Good post...
I agree with that a way around CID spoofing should be before ACR. I just received a call that was labelled Welcome Center, and wasn't even in the same areacode they were actually calling from. ACR would not do squat, and my number is registered with the donotcall.gov site...

As for Vonage having people lining up to buy them out, I welcome it. It is nice to see people wanting to buy them as opposed to other companies that are getting funding to stay afloat.
