I have found the problem, hp has a ECM correction mode, when set to off, the hp eliminates lost data by detecting errors that occur during tranmission due to poor phone lines |

At one point my Motorola MTA was giving an "intermittent" dial tone when I first picked up the line to make a call, but then it would settle down and I could dial out.
When I tried using the faxmodem with the MTA, the faxmodem would pick up the line, listen for a steady dial tone, not find one, and give up.
Since the phone and faxmodem were just extensions on the same line, I could pick up the handset, give the MTA a few seconds to come up with a good dial tone, then click the "Send" button in my fax software, and when the faxmodem picks up the line I can hang up the handset and the fax call goes through! |

I was also having trouble receiving faxes. After reading this forum I changed "wait for dialtone" to no and the problem was fixed.
Thanks! |
