I have had this problem before with my old configuration of a 4 port Linksys and a PAP2, where the cordless phone shows "In Use" and I can not make or receive calls.

It happened again today with my new setup which I currently have a Panasonic Expandable 5.8GHz Phone with 1 extra phone connected to a WRTP54G router.

I have rebooted the router/phone adapter several times but it does not fix the problem.

I think I have narrowed it down to phone not going on hook. Like the adapter does not see the voltage change and does not go on hook, but I am not sure. After rebooting, I was able to make a test call to my cell phone, voicemail picked up, but I was unable to hang up the phone. This test call was from the extended handset.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

On most of the Panasonic 5.8 gig expandable phones you can "unregister" the phone and then register it again with the base. I actually had to unregister a phone on my system. Unfortunately I am not at home with the instructions in front of me, but it is laid out in the Panasonic manual. You should follow the instructions to remove the registration from the phone. There is a second set of instructions to remove the registration from the base station but I am not sure I would try that first. If I don't see you have resolved this by the time I am at home I will try and look it up in my manual.

As for the PAP2, do you still have a good old hardwired phone laying around the house? If you hook it up by itself to the adpater and are able to make calls and hang up the call then I doubt the adapter is the problem. I think you already said that the base station can do this so that is why I think the problem is in the phone registration.

Up until last week I was swearing by these Panasonic phones. I still have good service from them, but I lost one of the displays on one of the phones so that bugs me. Otherwise they seem to work well.

check the firmware version. make sure you are version 1.00.50. might also be the cpc settings...

Are you using home wiring? Try just having ONE phone connected, preferably a hardwired phone, to the WRTP54G and see what happens. Does the Phone light stop blinking when you hang up the Panasonic? Does the Phone light stop blinking when you disconnect all phones & phone wiring from the WRTP?
