Chris,
Okay, the "reboot" of the adapter didn't require that I reconfigure it -- UNLESS I WANT TO ACCESS the administration pages. When I type the adapter's address in my browser, now, it times out.
The phone works both ways, though.
And the wireless on it is dead. I have wireless on my WRT54G, but wanted to have the adapter running wireless from the center of the house.
So I'm still "missing" something in the configuration; something that makes it ALMOST work when I use the adapter's internet port, but not quite...

If you want to admin the phone router and not direct-cable to it, you need to enable remote admin, note its (static) IP address and the port (leave it at 8080 default). You can then admin it via your browser:

if your wrp54g's firmware is still at version 20, save yourself some serious heartache and get it upgraded to version 50 before your router turns into a doorstop from timing out on downloads over and over. This should help your phone work more better.

I've been wondering that -- HOW do I upgrade firmware? There are no firmware downloads on the Linksys site, for this model, that I can see...
Thanks to Vonager for the tip on remote admin.

Okay, I'm getting the impression that
1) I cannot upgrade my own firmware --
Vonage
has to; and
2) Turning remote admin capabilities on won't solve my inability to get to my router/adapter's admin page. Seems that, the way I'm set up (which is the only way that both the internet and my
Voip
would work), I'm double NAT'd, or something, and so the computers on my home network cannot access the 2nd (voip) router.
So now I have to learn about using a wireless router as an access point (and hope that the
Voip
on that wireless router will still work), and learn about port forwarding.
I'm starting to believe that this WRTP54G is NOT a bargain...

You "normally" don't have to do anything to get your
Vonage
firmware upgraded as
Vonage
pushes it en mass to your device. A reboot of your system and
Vonage
adapter (and sometimes a hard reset of latter) sometimes helps in getting the firmware. However, there are instances where nothing on your side helps (been there once with my old RT31P2 prior to getting a RTP300 replacement). This is when a call to
Vonage
customer care is needed. Ask for a level2 tech who will manually push the firmware to your device while you're on the phone. Call on a weekday mid-morning to avoid the long hold times.

Post subject: Got it...somehow
I don't know what I did anymore but, in trying to set up remote admin on the 2nd router, I had to reset to defaults (again, for some reason) and, when I did, everything started working. I think I may have turned off NAT, but I'm no longer sure -- and I can no longer remote admin! But I don't care - it's all working (wireless, phone), so I'm good with it. Thanks to everyone for helping.
