Does your ethernet drop roughly every 12 hours though? I know mine does only with the WRTP54g, but not a WRT54g or any other router. 2nd unit from vonage...2nd unit doing it.

FYI, I've determined that the WRT54GP2 is susceptible to denial-of-service attacks, in addition to having a weaker signal strength. But I already had a WRT54GS, so I just plugged it into an Ethernet port on that and disabled wireless on the WRT54GP2 and it works fine. Maybe someday I'll replace the both of them with a WRTP54G.

I just checked the logs on all computers and printer attached to my WRTP54G and haven't seen anything. They have been in contact with each other for over 5 days without interruption, and the router has been in contact with my cable modem without interruption as well.

This router does require a little more network setup than the last model, and I use fixed IP addresses for all the network devices which it didn't like at first, but after I got over those hurdles, it seems to be more solid than the WRT54GP2.

Thanks for getting this issue out there, sac86738. My setup is identical to yours, and I experience the same problem. The new DNS for the WRT54G was the fix. You have to wonder how many users out there with this modem are even aware of the latency issue. If I were Vonage, I'd jump on this problem. By the way, appears that DNS is Verizon. Cheerio and thanks.

I have found that I was also having the slowing problem with the router. I disabled wireless completely and the problem is gone. I have the WRTP54G with the 1.00.58 firmware.

I just got the Vonage service and ordered the Linksys WRTP54G router. It seems to connect semi-reliably with a wired, ethernet connection. Sometimes the wired connection seems to stop working. I have to unplug the router, wait a bit, plug it in again, and then it works for awhile (anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes) until it repeats the process of shutting down my IP Address.

The wireless connection barely works at all. When I first boot up the router it shows up on my WiFi connectin list for about 15 seconds. I can even connect to it during this time. However, after about 15 to 20 seconds the connection goes away and I have to unplug and reboot to get my next 15 seconds of connection time.

Is my router defective? Should I post a new thread about this?

Thanks,

VoipVictim
