Hey All,


I really would appreciate some help with this. I have a WRPT54GP2 with a 1.30 Firm ware on it. The phone side seems ok, a little humming but nothign that I cant live with. However the Data side is giving me a life sentence at the Looney Bin. I have 3 computers all all B/G cards in them. When I have the wireless in the router turned on to Mixed (BandG) My speed tests come back at a horrible 700Kbps but if i switch it to G only I get 4-5Mbps. Its absolutley drivng me crazy I spent 5 hrs with linksys today several techs and all gave be the run around to change certain settings, we changed everything and nothing worked. There only suggestions was to replace the router. I am awaiting a new router but I know this will not work. I do have a telecom back ground so I knew all the basic troubleshooting to go through. Plugging into the modem directly worked great, hardwiring it to the router worked great but any wireless systems get horrible signal if I turn on the B protocol. Now I would like to turn off B and just use G however, I have 1 computer and 2 Xbox's in the house using B and that would cost me about $200 to switch all that over to G. Its just the fact that this was working for about 6 months and now all of a sudden its gone down hill. Has any one had any similar issues or any one that can give me any suggestions please contact me.

I could be wrong on this one, but here is my understanding.

If you have the router configured to Mixed Mode and you have at least one device that is using B then the router will run in B mode. This means that ALL devices connected to the router will run at B speeds.

I believe I read this on the Sveasoft forums a while back. This is why my router is set to be G only.

Try a Google search and see what you come up with. Very Happy

I really apprecaite your post and in fact you are right:

" For compatibility 802.11g access points can be set in dual mode b and g supported. There is one issue with this as soon as a 802.11b client associates all clients on the network are kicked down to 802.11b speeds. This can be solved by putting the access point in g only mode. But then the vast majority of existing b clients will not be able to connect."


It would be nice #1 for me coming from a telecom industry to know that hahaha and #2 i would love for linksys to know something like this so i do not have to spend so much time on this.

I will be going out today to puchase all new G equipment.
