** CORRECTION** I thought you were talking about the Uniden IP phone, which is in beta testing. The Vtech IP phones have been out in Best Buy and other stores for awhile now. The biggest limitation to them is that they lack an RJ-11 jack, so you can't connect any other devices to your Vonage connection with them.
The original post below is regarding the Uniden IP phones which are currently in beta test:
Because they're still testing it. The product *does* exist, and Vonage has given a few of these to some of their employees to test & abuse. Apparently it runs on a Texas Instruments chipset, 'though I wasn't told which one, so it may very well have all of the issues that the other TI-based devices have, or it may have a totally different set of issues. Don't worry, it's supposed to be out in time for Christmas. |

i got my grubby mitts on one of the Uniden beta phones, they are pretty cool - thanks to us beta testers there have been improvements in the firmware for such arcane things as ssh access through (not TO) the device, DHCP relay, and audio quality. The router section is pretty robust - it offers things like RIP routing capabilities, and on the handset you can upload your own pictures to the handset and set up your own ringtones.
The vtech phones, well - I have seen people having problems adding additional handsets to the system. They buy a third or fourth handset, follow the instructions exactly, but the base won't recognize the new handset. Also sometimes it seems like they ship with defective batteries - the thing just won't turn on. Then they call up and we have to tell them take it back. Those can be solved by simply going back to the retail store and raising hell to get a new one. The main drawback is that you can only have one line with the vtech - no fax lines! |
