hi, i recently moved into a new home where all voice and data lines are pulled (home run) to a leviton structured media cabinet (essentially a mini-110 block).
i've also got the Vonage router in the same panel, and to connect it into the 110 block, i used a standard phone line and simply punched down the green and red wires into the block (blue&white positions). this worked fine for a few days, but today i'm not getting a dialtone from my phones. My cordless phone is telling me "No Line". If I reseat the RJ-11 that connects the block to the Vonage, it works for a few mins and I can dial out, but then goes back to "No-Line".
I'm not sure if I properly connected the block to the router as I think the block calls for cat5 cable. However, my thoughts are that if it worked for a few days, why not now? What is the proper way to connect the Vonage line1 port to the 110 block?
I know I could attach the router to a standard wall jack, but I have all my equipment in this cabinet and would like to keep it that way. Anyone have any advice?
TIA!

To isolate the issue, you might try running a phone directly for a day or so off the router. Then rewire only to one jack on the 110 and run that same phone for another day on that jack. THEN, try another jack until you've tested them all.
How many phones are you running? This would be an issue too.
Do you use a punchdown tool on the 110 block? Bad punch connections can really mess with the voltage continuity on the line. As a matter of point: Screwdrivers do not count as punchdown tools. |

Just one cordless phone on the 110. It seems that if I connect directly to the Vonage router, everything works fine. Professional installers wired the phone jacks, I punched down the Vonage connection using a real tool.
I'm thinking it's something in my rigged up wiring. I'm about to leave town for a few days and desperately trying to get this working for the wife. Unfortunately leaving the cordless attached in the basement for the weekend won't work b/c the WLAN Access Point interferes with it. Too much dam& technology.
Thanks |

You might try a different color pair. Pull the jack out of the wall and repunch to the orange or green pairs, and then repunch the 110 block to those pairs for that drop. |

resolved this last night. one of the cat5 runs was shorting out the rest of the block. have not identified the exact issue with this run b/c i'm not sure where it goes...i ordered 3 voice runs for the house, but for some reason, there is a 4th...hmmm...thanks to all for feedback!
