If i use call forwarding to a number out of my area code, does the call still connect through Vonage, or will i end up paying long distance? Say if i called a local Vonage number on my cell, and it forwarded to a number that was long distance on my cell, but not on Vonage, would i be charged long distance on my cell, or would it still be a connection to the Vonage number since i dialed that number, not the long distance one? Any help would be great =). thanks =)

Yeah it's all handled through Vonage.
There's a warning on the website somewhere about call forwarding, if someone has a limited minute plan with them like the Basic 500 plan, and someone calls the Vonage customer and the call is forwarded for 501 minutes, then they just blew their month's worth of minutes on call forwarding.
But it won't affect the person calling Vonage. That's why you can live in the Glorious State of New Jersey and have a virtual number in California, so some pothead in Cali can call you but it forwards to you in Jersey at no extra cost to them.

Mad Sigh, Vonage doesnt have a local number where i need the virtual number. I think im going to try a nearby virtual number and a toll free number. Link the toll free to the virtual and then forward the virtual to my cell. Bell canada has some REALLY lame calling plans btw, thats my whole problem. Half of the time i dont get the text message sent from them, so my friend has to call me, then i call them right back on Vonage.

whre does your friend live in Canada? are you sure there's no virtual number around their area? bell does have some 'ok' plans for CDN long distance, so you rfriend could get one of those plans and then call your CDN virtual number..

by reading your last post, i think you're a bit confused by the way the virtual and 800 numbers work on Vonage. if you are going to get an 800 number for your CDN friend to dial, then you do not need any virtual numbers, in you rpost you said you wanted o farward your virtual number to your cell, but you can't do that. you can only forward your main number to your cell, and by doing that all you rvirtual numbers and 800 numbers will forward as well, but you can't forward ONLY a virtual number..

if there is no number avail in your friends local calling area, then you hsould just get the 800 number and then you can forward your Vonage to your cell, and they can call you that way, or if you are going to be away from home and want to call Canada, then forward your Vonage line to your CDN friends line, but then all your calls will ring to them..

or best idea yet, get your friend to sign up with Vonage.ca and the your calls will be free, they don't need to get a number local to them if they're mainly using it to call you anaywas...

Ugh i just found all this out before you posted, i found it out by trying it lol. I was trying to keep costs on my friend's end to a minimum, and she can get Vonage right now, otherwise this wouldnt be a poblem at all. Its a money thing. I was planning to set it up so i could call my Vonage phone from my cell, and it would forward to her cell, and she could call my virtual number, and it would forward to MY cell. Now ive got activation fees to pay since this doesnt work lol. Oh well, thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate the help blah blah
