I have the following equipment.
A - Comcast Cable Modem
B - Linksys Wireless Router BEFW11S4 (firmware latest)
C - Vonage/Linksys RTP300 Router/Phone Adapter (firmware .50)
D - PC via WiFi

If I connect A->B->C->D, the phone will stop working (and no dialtone) after a couple of days and I have to power cycle it to make it work again.

If I connect A->C->B->D, the phone will stop working (and no dialtone) within 1 or 2 hours and I have to power cycle it to make it work again.

Please help!

I just had my Vonage service for a couple of weeks.

I have to say this service is more a toy than a utility!

It's a real live phone for me, but I admit that it wouldn't be if I had to keep going through what you're having to put up with. But to get to troubleshooting, what happens if you go- temporarily- to a stripped down system, with just cable modem > RTP300 > phone; i.e., leave the wireless out of the picture?

Good advice, let it sit like that over night.

Also, what kind of cable modem is it? Could it (the modem) be resetting itself for some reason?

I had a very similar problem but with a RT31P2. With the setup Steve suggested also take the Voip SpeedTest on this site. If your speeds are slower than what they should be then connect directly to the cable modem and take the RTP300 out of the picture. If the speed returns to normal I'd guess it's a bad RTP300. This is what happened to me and replacing my RT31P2 with a RTP300 solved my problem. You'll need to be persistent with Customer Care but if you stay the course they will send you a new one if the above tests point to your RTP300.

Good luck

Good advice about being persistent to get a replacement. That's what I will do. BTW, my cable modem is pretty fast - I can get almost 9mbps download speed.

Hi Vonage support staff,

Please face it. I am not the only one reporting "phone stops working" problem. I can see many others have reported similar problems. It's obvious to me that RTP300 firmware is buggy and need to be replaced. I should implement a watchdog patch so that when it detects the failure, it should reset it self without human intervension.

And I will not try to be your QA engineer to experiment. I do need more wireless router regardless what the result is.

I suggest you replace my RTP300, take it back to reproduce the issue inhouse, find the root cause for the sake your future customer satisfaction - so you won't loose them.

If your speeds drop drastically when you connect the Vonage device to your network, try cloning the MAC address and then ask yourself.."Is my ISP a direct competitor to Vonage?"

Over 6,000 trouble-free minutes on my Vonage acct so far, I find it difficult to call it a toy. Still pisses me off to see people blame Vonage for their lousy ISPs.

I'm afraid it goes with the territory. Voip is utterly dependent on the supporting internet service, and it's not always easy to see where the fault lies when the total system is giving poor results.
