I do note that on my system, I had to wait a few minutes before I got dialtone.

Initially, I got a busy signal.

Also, on my PBX, it has to be PROGRAMMED to accept new lines. It came with a Windows programming software, that interfaces via an RS-232 cable (remember those?) to a serial port on a PC. Through a series of setup menus, you have to configure the system for input lines, output, etc. Actually for $500, it has been a nice little PBX for the last 10 years. I was going to sell it on eBay, but I think I might keep it.

The Vonage box emulates an analog phone line. Your PBX should recognize it as such.

Saaaay. You aren't trying to plug into the phone2 jack, are you? Unless you have enabled a second line, that won't work. Tried it.

Also, check your RJ-11 cable. Make sure some tech did not reverse the wire order on the plugs and that you do have continuity.

My procedure is: (1) I confirm that the Phone1 Jack is working by plugging a regular phone directly into it using a standard 4-wire phone cable. (2) I disconnect the existing POTS line from one of the inputs to my phone system; (2) I quickly disconnect the phone cable from the standard phone and plug it into the said input to my phone system. No dial tone... no nothing. I then reboot the phone system and the Linksys device... still no dial tone or anything else.

By the way, not only am I not getting a dial tone, but the phone system CO line is not connecting to the Linksys device in any way, because I can't enter **** to get the voice response system on the Linksys device. When I have problems getting a dial tone on a regular phone attached to the Linksys, I can at least enter **** on the phone to get the Linksys voice response system. So it appears that my phone system is just not recognizing the Linksys connection as a "POTS" line.

Sounds like you are screwed, basically.

I know on my phone system, in the setup program, there are all sorts of bizarre obscure settings for various phone system types. Does your system have that? Have you tried adjusting it?

If not, it sounds like the Panasonic system is not recognizing the Vonage dialtone as the real deal. Perhaps it is looking for some voltage level on the tip or ring or whatever.

I guess I'm lucky. Once I decided to ignore all the instructions and just plug it in, it has worked great.....so far.

One odd thing is that unlike Ma Bell, when you pick up the Vonage line, you get a dialtone, like RIGHT AWAY. The Telco lines always have this slight pause....

I don't think Neo can get back to the mother ship on a Vonage line.
