why is it that some numbers cannot be transferred to Vonage? and why Vonage doesnt have all the area codes and the location available? how does Vonage works with PBX? and do i really need to keep my phone line active to maintain my DSL?

Vonage is not a telephoen company. They set up agreements with local phone companies (like Focal Communications and others) to provide phone numbers and central office interconnection.
The area codes where Vonage doesn't offer service are areas where they have yet to establish a contract with a local carrier.
The FCC only requires number portability within a given region, so if Vonage doesn't have a relationship with anyone in your region, they won't be able to accept your number transfer, as your current carrier will refuse to transfer your number to a distant region where Vonage has a contract.
Vonage looks like any other POTS line to your PBX (although you should verify details with your PBX service rep). Presumably, any place you can plug in a POTS line, you can plug in a Vonage line. I could be wrong, but I doubt you can get a DID or a local T1 from Vonage to interface with your PBX.
Ask your local DSL provider if you have to pay for local service or not. Most of them require that you have phone service to have DSL service, or else they charge you a lot more for standalone-DSL (more than it would cost to keep the phone line).
Whew! I think I covered them all! What are you trying to do, and where are you located? |
