Problem w Linksys PAP2 using the SMC router: No access to voicemail from the Voip phone Incoming calls could be answered, but both sides of the line heard dead silence. Outgoing calls (and quality) were fine
Placing the PAP2 in the DMZ did not solve my problem. (Or, I did not know how to do it properly...) Also, turning SPI off on the router caused the phone to go completely dead.
I am a networking "peon", but found the following SPI settings on the router by trial and error to fix this problem:
Max incomplete TCP/UDP sessions from same host: default 10 changed to 50.
Incomplete TCP/UDP time sessions detect sensitive time period: default 300ms changed to 750ms.
Perhaps this will help someone else avoid hours of headaches. Of course, Vonage technical support was worthless... Good Luck! |

A HUGE THANK YOU For this info.. It worked for me too, I'm using the vanilla ethernet hub 7004VBR, but the settings are all the same for the device. I am really impressed you managed to figure this out. I had gotten it to work by turning off the SPI & DOS prevention option, but am much happier with your solution!
Prior to all this i had called SMC and they were useless. I knew not to bother calling Vonage, as I had called them for routing problems when I had the device at a client location, and they basically pointed me to the Help pages, which I had already had..
Thank heavens for guys like you and this forum!
