Hi,
I've used Vonage for 2 1/2 weeks. After the first week, the caller id stopped working. Called tech support, they were going to debug it. We cycled the Motorola MTA and it started working. A week later, the same thing happened twice. What's wrong? Is this standard behavior to have to cycle the MTA once a week?

No, I wouldn't say "standard behavior," but when I notice mine is screwed up, I reach over and cycle the whole shooting match. Comcast has been working on the speed bump to 3 mbs the last few months. Over the last two days they told 21K people via email to reboot their modems. Yeah, it's been really fun -- mostly they've just crashed the system.
But since I've gotten caller ID with name, I notice sometimes it's not functional. I just reboot and it's fine. To save $80 a month, I'm cool with that. |

Laureltn...have you had any dropped calls? I am also a Comcast user and have recently had calls drop and it takes 2-3 min to come back up....this also effects my PC's but does not appear to be the connection as the "OnLine" light does not change. |

My provider is Adelphia.
The CallerId's been solid for a week now.
And yes, my local phone was costing me over $90(+ dial up) a month. So Adephia for $35 a month and Vonage for $25 is worth a little inconvenience.

Hi, KS. I was out of town and didn't have time to forum surf.
No dropped calls. Actually, when the speeds are running solid, the sound is fabulous. I think I've really only had about 2 or 3 dropped calls in our entire service experience with Vonage, which goes back to September of last year.
What we'll get if Comcast is going down or too slow is the call not actually completing. You have a dial tone, you dial, but it never rings. That's happened once with the router failer in our neighborhood and once with the en mass modem reset. Comcast is definitely still getting its bearings. The system went down twice while I was gone. (Yes, I have the 11- and 15-year-old trained in the art of rebooting the system) That's very unusual, though. Since I've had the MTA I would say I need a reboot without knowing of any probelsm with comcast in our area maybe once every 10 to 14 days?
Our speeds are still settling in and I think they're still working the kinks out. Now that we have the higher speeds, I COULD move the MTA behind the router, but then we get into two routers or switches because we have the MTA and 4 computers. I'll keep on keeping on with this at least a few more weeks.
